Chapter 17

Two months later...

"We rushed over as soon as we could get away." Lisa and Kaeya arrived late at night at the winery, quickly entering the foyer, "How's Jean? How's everyone?"

The news of Jean going into labor three weeks earlier than her estimated due date took everyone by surprise. Diluc had been out on the field with a few knights when a bird carrier circled to deliver the message. The message was fast to travel to Barbara next. Followed by Aether, then Lisa.

Lisa and Kaeya were last to arrive in the same carriage.

"Indeed, a busy day for us all." Elzer greeted them with a short bow, "Relieved to say things are winding down. Lady Jean is currently being tended to by her Doctor and a few other nurses." He explained while guiding them to the stairs. "Miss Barbara was a significant help upon her arrival, all thanks to her healing blessing. She was able to keep Lady Jean relatively comfortable throughout the ten hours of labor. Safe to say, our Lady has cleared the worst."

A sigh of relief escaped the two.

"So the twins have arrived..." The Blue-haired Captain smiled, directing a few glances to the stairs, "I'm shocked with how fast everything happened--"

An elbow to his side cut his words short as Lisa shook her head in disapproval, "Ten hours in labor isn't fast, Captain Kaeya. It's a remarkable experience, not only for the mother but for the father as well." A forced smile resided on her lips while she directed her attention to Elzer, "I'm sure Sir Diluc would agree now that he's witnessed it himself."

"Right," Kaeya playfully returned the elbow gesture, "But of course, it's a miracle in the making. One would be fortunate to have such an experience. I'm sure Diluc must be ecstatic about his twins."

Lisa nudged him again, "We all are excited about the twins. Even you, Captain Kaeya."

"My, but of course. Myself included," Readily admitting to the claim, Kaeya casually shrugged by her side. "We may have arrived later than expected, but would it be possible to meet the new family members?"

The question convinced Elzer to head up the stairs, allowing the pair to follow, "I'll inform Master Diluc about your arrival. I believe he's currently in the nursery."

Elzer continued guiding the two past the second floor and further into another hallway. A few maids passed them along the way, offering their short greetings, but nonetheless, the residence maintained a prolonged silence.

Shortly arriving outside the indicated door, Elzer excused himself, "It'll be just a moment."

Disappearing into the room, the blue-haired Captain and the scholarly mage exchanged glances while they waited.

It wasn't long before the door re-opened, only to see Diluc step out of the room to greet them.

Lisa didn't suppress her startle as she briefly took a step back, "Oh—my—we weren't expecting you to come out of the room, Sir Diluc." Lisa's smile grew as Diluc slightly chuckled at her reaction. "I apologize for our late arrival, but most importantly, congratulations," she excitedly took him into a hug.

"It's no problem at all, Miss Lisa. Thank you for coming." Diluc accepted the hug, taking notice of Kaeya standing by. "I see you made it too."

"Of course, I wouldn't miss this." Kaeya was next to pull Diluc into a hug, "You look like shit, by the way."
