it was time for liyah to water her plant, theo.
she took an empty bottle of water and filled it up with tap water.
she watered it just the right amount.
"yesterday i left out a quarter of the water, i should give it to him now." she mumbled to herself, pouring water into the soil.
"i'll give him extra, just in case he get's thirsty."
"okay- but what if it grows too many branches and it needs extra water."
this cycle continued for a while, then liyah left to hang out with the triplets. they went ice skating, then decided to continue hanging out at the malik's since their mom was traveling for god knows what reason.
"can you guys put home alone on? i need to go to check on something." liyah asked. ani nodded and grabbed the remote.
liyah walked up to her room and saw her plant all droopy. she knew she had overwatered it.
"shit." she huffed, grabbing the pot. she slid to the floor, so she was sitting criss cross with the plant between her legs.
"always have to fuck shit up." she grumbled. "stupid. can't even keep a plant alive."
she held the pot up, inspecting the sad leaves.
"i hate you." she didn't know who she was talking about; herself, or the plant. she threw the pot on the floor, shards of the clay pot flying everywhere.
almost instantly, matt showed up, ani hot on his tail.
"what the fuck happened?" ani asked.
"killed my own plant." she held her head in her hands, gripping the roots of her hair with her fingers.
ani was taking a step forward to comfort her sister, but matt was already next to liyah. with a sigh, ani closed the door and walked out.
"what's really going on, liyah?" he asked, sitting next to her.
"i watered my plant too much it died." she admitted, picking at her skin.
"why'd you water it too much?" he knew what she was gonna say, but he wanted her to say it herself; to admit it.
"dunno." she shrugged.
matt gave her a knowing look that made her explode.
"my plant died because i cared for it too much." she huffed. "my relationships ended because i loved them too much. in every situation, everything i do is too much."
"you're a giver, liyah." matt shrugged. "you're a giver to people who don't deserve to get."
"you care for people, and that's more than okay." matt added, "but when they take advantage of it, you have to set limits, because they won't."
she didn't reply, she just put her head on his shoulder, silent tears rolling down her face.
