The hunt. The pack thinking, moving, breathing as one. We found a nice herd of caribou with lots of young. We found one large enough to satisfy all 8 wolves, and were separating it from the rest. We split the pack in half, and get the one separated. The alpha of our pack at the moment went first, followed by me and the others. We dragged the last of be carcass toward the den, about 2.5 miles Northwest of us. When we reached our destination, the young pups and recent mothers were awake and hungry. I went into my den, cozy and small. The alpha followed me, so I kept my head low and my tail tucked in between my legs as I walked. I laid down, exposing my belly. He stood high, asserting his dominance over me.
"You did well today. Unfortunately, it will most likely be the last you have with the pack." He shook his head. "You were careful not to show your coyote to the rest of the pack, and for that we are grateful. But, it is still there and your instinct to be alone runs stronger than we expected. I am truly sorry, but I mist do what is best for the pack. By the next moon, our pack will lose a very important member. You-" He broke off. "The rest of the speech will be done in ceremony. Come now, the new mores are finished with their meals and the pups have all went to sleep for the night. You will stay until tomorrow's moon, and you shall leave." He nodded his magnificent black head at me, telling me that I was okay to stand.
"Yes, sir." I said as he turned to leave. I followed him outside, where the rest of the pack had already gathered. I knew how this went, I had helped Alpha cast Away members of the pack in recent months. He stood on a log, and yipped to get the attention of the pack. They yipped back, acknowledging that he had their attention. He began.
"Thank you for gathering. Today we had a great hunt, we fed well. Unfortunately, by tomorrow's moon, we will loose a member of our pack." There were yips of disagreement, and Alpha bowed his head to acknowledge them. "Yes, I know that she will be missed. We all seem to respect this one, making this even harder. She is a mix, and we must keep the bloodlines running through the pack clean and strong." More yips. "Quiet. Yes, I understand that we can usually overlook this, but this is an... unusual case. By tomorrow's moon, she will no longer be pack, but lone wolf. She will be allowed on pack territories for three days. After that she is," Alpha sighed as if it pained him to say the next words, but they were inevitable. "Banished." The yips got louder until they were barks and slight howls. "As much as I wish there were another way, there is not. Say your goodbyes within the next day. You," He turned to me. "You will have your duties for night watch and tomorrow's hunt, but after that you must leave us."------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
