Meeting Mason

Alone. The last word kept running laps in my head as I sulked forward out of the woods. My only family left that I knew of, gone. Just like that. All I could do was hope as i walked along that hey were okay. The humans that took them used tranquilizers, so I thought they had a good chance of being somewhat safe. At least, not dead. I hit the tree line to see civilizatiom. Humans. I backed up into the trees to change. It was painful at first, but only until I stopped fighting the change. I stretched my arms and legs.
Good god, I thought to myself. It has been a while since I was on two legs. Clothes. Can't walk into town without clothes. Once I was fully clothed and mostly mentally prepared to  see another human, I walked into town. First thing I smelled was meat. I took a deep breath in through the nose. Steak. The thought made my  mouth water and my stomach growl. I have no money. I have... nothing. The thought hit me like a wave.
Nothing. No money, just the clothes on my back and all the wolf human stuff. And the coyote stuff. The mix of wolf and coyote made my sense of smell better than the average werewolf.
I was so lost in thought that I ran into somebody. It took me a second to realize what he was. Werewolf. My instincts were telling me to run, but I held my ground.
"Oh, I'm sorry. Didn't see you." He was pale, with red hair and distinct blue eyes. I stuck my hand out. "My name's Caroline. You are...?"
"Mason." He replied as he shook my hand. "You aren't from here, are you?"
"That depends on where 'here' is." I replied with a sincere smile. I needed to stay on his good side.
He laughed. A deep sound. "Vancouver." I smiled.
"Then yeah, it's just been a while. Um, I need to find somebody." I grabbed his shirt and dragged him along with me, out of human earshot. "Look, okay? I know what you are. I have a feeling you only half way know what I am. I need to find the local alpha. When I left his name was Dwane." Mason smiled, showing his teeth.
"Well, first off, Dwane is no longer alpha here. He took over another pack across the state. And secondly, if you want my help, I need better treatment." I smiled, debating weather or not I liked and trusted this stranger.
"Okay, fine." I let go of his shirt. "Who is the new alpha?" Mason grinned at me.
"You can't tell?" He laughed, and I was starting to get impatient. "The new alpha, well... let's just say... he goes by Mason." He smirked at me and winked.
"You?" I started to laugh. "Okay. I need your help."
