Sitting at the far end of the table, Alex avoided all eye contact as she stared at the dinner before her but didn't bother to eat even a crumb of it.  Harry, Ron, and Hermione had all been avoiding her since getting back from Hogsmeade, but she could feel them glancing in her direction every once in a while. The unusual sight didn't go unnoticed by other people at the table, who were confused as to why Alex wasn't sitting with her friends when they were usually stuck at the hip.

Knowing she wouldn't eat another bite and wanting to get away from prying eyes, Alex stood abruptly and left the hall, several people glancing at her as tears began to run down her cheeks. And she knew it was only her fault. She should have said something but how do you tell your best friend that your dad is the reason his parents are dead?  Not only that, but he was friends with them leading up to the betrayal.

There simply weren't any words that someone could say.

"Miss Selwyn!" A voice called, causing her to stop and turn to see Professor McGonagall walking towards her.

The sight of the professor made Alex's stomach tighten as she recalled the conversation she had been a part of earlier, the one that had completely exposed her lies. She really was as bad as her dad.

"Yes?" She squeaked.

McGonagall was quick to notice the tears flowing down her cheeks. "Are you alright?" She asked.

Alex sniffled and nodded with a fake smile as she wiped the tears with her sleeve. "I just had a small argument with some friends, that's all."

McGonagall gave her a sad smile. "Well, regardless of whatever you argued about, it's important to stick close to your friends always."

Tell that to my father, Alex thought bitterly.

"But there's someone you need to speak with," she told her. "They're in Professor Dumbledore's office.  The password is Fizzing Whizzbees."

She nodded before diverting her course to head to the headmaster's office.  The entire walk there, she felt her stomach tightening.  Had Fudge found her mother?  Did Sirius Black already get to her?  Was she dead?

Before she knew it, she came up to the gargoyle statue, and knowing she couldn't avoid it, she heaved a heavy sigh.

"Fizzing Whizzbees."

The gargoyle moved and she hopped onto the step, rising up until she reached the very top.  The door to Dumbledore's office was straight ahead and she was already dreading whatever Fudge wanted to talk to her about.  But she couldn't avoid it.

Knocking gently, she stepped back and waited until the door opened and she heard voices inside.

"Alexandria, do come in!" The Minister's voice called.

Slowly, she entered and found Fudge and Dumbledore standing by his desk, enjoying some kind of dark drink in their hands.  Alex offered a smile that was entirely fake before slowly approaching.
