Kane wasn't nervous when Ethan showed up at the pack's sleeping chamber and told him that the Supreme wanted to see him. Kane wasn't nervous as he walked through the compound toward the Supreme's office. Kane wasn't even nervous when he saw the Supreme's serious expression or the little bit of fear that the Supreme wasn't quite able to hide in his gaze. None of that made Kane nervous. What did make him nervous though were the words that the Supreme said as soon as Kane entered his office.

Before Kane had even had a chance to sit down and make himself comfortable, the Supreme said, "We're going to see the Mother."

Those words were enough to make Kane's blood run cold. No one besides the Supreme ever saw the Mother, unless they were in serious trouble. Usually the Supreme handled all disciplinary actions. The only times when the Mother got involved was when the offenses were super fucking serious.

Kane's heart began pounding in his chest. He hadn't done anything. At least, he'd never done anything that would warrant the attention of the Mother. He lived pretty quietly in the compound. Granted that was likely because no one was stupid enough to mess with him, especially after he'd handed Anders's ass to him. Was that what this was about? Anders had issued Kane a challenge and Kane had simply accepted. He hadn't done anything wrong. Kane's hands started shaking. He forced himself to clench them into fists.

"What for?" Kane asked, though he knew he shouldn't. One didn't ask about the whims of the Mother. You just did what you were fucking told.

The Supreme gave Kane a reproachful look. Kane refused to shrink. Then the Supreme sighed heavily and said, "She wants to see you to get to know what kind of Supreme you're going to be."

"Didn't she pick me to be the next Supreme?" Kane demanded. "Shouldn't she already know that I'd be a good one if she chose me?"

The Supreme shook his head. "She just wants to see you Kane. Believe it or not, she doesn't exactly share her plans with me."

It might shock some members of the Brotherhood to hear those words. Kane wasn't surprised at all. The Mother was scary as fuck. No one ever questioned her choices or motives. That shit could get you killed quickly. Even a Supreme would hesitate before asking the Mother about her plans.

Kane didn't say anything in response. He just nodded his head and tried to keep himself from shaking uncontrollably. Kane had always been terrified of having to see the Mother. He wasn't exactly the best at taking orders, but he'd always thought that was because deep down he'd always known that he should be the one giving them. Now he would be the one that was completely dominated. He wasn't sure if he was prepared for that feeling. It didn't matter though. He didn't have a choice. He had to meet with the Mother.

"Are you ready?" The Supreme asked him.

Kane nodded. He wasn't sure if he could manage to form words right now. Luckily, the Supreme seemed to understand. He motioned for Kane to sit on one of the leather couches that faced each other in front of the giant fireplace in the middle of the office. Kane walked over slowly and sank down onto the cushions. He looked over to see the Supreme sitting down across from him.

"This is going to feel a bit strange," The Supreme warned.

Kane didn't get a chance to ask a clarifying question. Suddenly, there was a rushing wind that filled the office, or maybe it just filled Kane's head, he couldn't tell. Cold like he'd never felt before began crawling over his body. Moisture pelted his face and he tried to move away from it, but found that he couldn't. It kept swirling around him until it was all around him. It touched his feet, his face, his arms, his legs, his neck, the cold and moisture was everywhere.
