Hanna Marin strode into school, her shiny blonde hair bouncing behind her. Her heels clicked on the tiled floor as she walked to her locker at the end of the hallway where her three best friends were waiting. Aria Montgomery, Spencer Hastings, and Emily Fields were circled together, their eyes glued towards Emily's phone. Hanna's face fell.
"A new A text?" She asked anxiously as she spun her locker combination. Although disappointed, Hanna wasn't surprised. A had been torturing the girls for over a year now. After Mona Vanderwaal, the first A, was taken to Radley, the girls thought it was all over, but soon the games began again, this time worse than ever. Spencer nodded.
"Someone's birthday is coming up soon! Don't worry, I'll make sure to give you a special surprise.

Emily read aloud, sighing. Her seventeenth birthday was in just over a week, and although she wasn't supposed to know it yet, her girlfriend Paige was planning on throwing her a surprise party. Emily had been looking forward to it; a chance to have real teenager fun, a break from A? But who was she kidding; the girls never got a break from A. Aria frowned in sympathy.
"I'm sorry, Em," She said. "Try not to worry, though. It's probably just A trying to scare you, maybe it's nothing."
Hanna nodded. "Yeah. Plus, there will be so many people at the part-" Her sentence got cut off as Aria elbowed her in the side.
"Ow!"
"Hanna! Shhh.." Aria hissed, her hazel eyes wide. Hanna clapped a hand over her mouth.
"Oh crap. I mean.." Hanna trailed off. Emily laughed.
"Guys, it's fine. I know about the party. Paige is really bad at covering her tracks, there are receipts for things all over her room". Emily told them. Hanna exhaled in relief.
"Okay good," She said. "Because I'm horrible at keeping secrets."
Spencer nodded. "That's for sure." Hanna glared at her playfully.
"Anyway, there will be so many people at the party, I'd be surprised if A tried anything too serious," She said. Emily nodded.
"Hopefull-" She started to say, but was cut off as the bell trilled through the halls, signalling five minutes until the beginning of class. Hanna slammed her locker shut and the girls walked off in their separate directions, with Aria and Hanna heading off to biology and Emily and Spencer to History.
"That was a close one, Han," Aria laughed. "You really need to work on your secret-keeping skills. Hanna shrugged and laughed with her as they strolled into the biology classroom.
What Hanna didn't know, however, was just how much those skills were about to improve.
