The next morning
Hanna tossed and turned in her bed, gazing at her sleeping friends on the floor. She glanced over to her clock. 5:46am. For the past thirty minutes she had been awake, unable to fall back asleep. Caleb was coming home today, and the mounting anxiety in Hanna's chest was too hard to ignore. What she told him today would determine whether her baby would grow up with a father, or if Hanna would be doing this on her own. Suddenly, Hanna felt a bout of nausea consume her. She got out of bed instantly, and, stepping over her friend's sleeping bodies as quickly as she could, made a break to the washroom. Wrapping her blonde locks behind her, Hanna vomited her insides into the toilet. After a few minutes of rather violent retching, Hanna heard a knock on the door.
"Hanna? Is that you?" Spencer's voice called, scratchy from sleep. Hanna didn't answer; another wave of queasiness crashed over her and she turned her face to the toilet once more, gagging.
"I'm coming in, Han." Spencer sighed, opening the door. The tall brunette walked in to see Hanna on her knees, her tank-top damp with sweat and her skin pale and green. Hanna looked up.
"This is horr-" She said, unable to finish her sentence. Spencer nodded but didn't say anything. She got to her knees next to her friend and carefully took Hanna's hair, holding it back in one hand and rubbing Hanna's back with the other. After a few more minutes, Hanna had nothing left in her stomach to vomit, and slowly recovered, breathing in and out to try to calm the nausea that still remained. Spencer sat next to her on the floor silently. Hanna looked at her friend with tears in her eyes.
"How am I supposed to do this, Spencer," She whispered, her voice breaking. Spencer opened her arms and Hanna leaned into them.
"You don't have to, Hanna. But I know you can. It's not going to be easy, but you can do it if that's what you truly want. We'll all be here for you, and I'm sure Caleb and your mom will be too," Spencer told her, gently stroking Hanna's hair. Hanna sighed.
"What if he's not?" She protested. Spencer looked at her."Then he's a piece of crap and we'll go teach him a lesson," She joked. "No, but seriously. He will be, I'm sure of it. But even if he isn't, you've still got the three of us no matter what." She told Hanna. "Now why don't you freshen up and then try to get some more sleep," Spencer said, rising from the floor slowly. Hanna nodded.
"Hey Spence?" She said, pulling her knees up to her chin and resting her head gently atop her legs. Spencer looked back. "Thank you," Hanna said sincerely. Spencer smiled.
"Of course, Hanna. You're my best friend," She said before closing the door gently behind her. After a moment, she returned back.
"I have a fresh pair of pyjamas for you," She whispered, smiling.
"Aww, thanks," Hanna said, taking them from her friend. Spencer nodded and closed the door again, her footsteps retreating. Hanna stood in front of the bathroom mirror, turning sideways and lifting her shirt up to reveal her stomach. It looked the same as usual, pretty much flat and toned. She wasn't expecting to be showing yet, but Hanna still marvelled at the fact that there was a tiny, blueberry sized life inside of her that was going to be her baby. At that moment, she realised she knew what she wanted to do. She was going to keep this baby. She couldn't imagine doing anything else. Hanna knew she didn't have to, and she wouldn't judge anyone else for making any other decision. But her heart was already bursting with love for something so small, and even though she had never planned on being pregnant at only seventeen years old, she couldn't fathom giving it up. Smiling softly, Hanna rinsed out her mouth and squirted a small amount of toothpaste onto her toothbrush. She brushed her teeth carefully before stripping her clothes off and taking a quick shower. As Hanna lathered her hair with shampoo, she began to let herself think positively. She started to become excited. She knew that being a teen mom would be far from easy, but she still found herself wondering; was she going to have a boy or girl? What would her baby be like? Who would they resemble? Hanna grinned. She had always wanted to be a mom, and even though it was definitely happening sooner than anticipated, she was still starting to look forward to it. Nervous, too, of course. But for the first time since she found out, a glimmer of excitement was beginning to form in her mind. After washing off, Hanna stepped out of the shower and wrapped herself in a plush grey towel, drying off quickly before dressing in her fresh pyjamas. She ran a brush through her blonde hair quickly and flicked off the light switch, walking out of the bathroom and back into her dark bedroom. Hanna tried to suppress a laugh as she padded through the doorway; Aria and Emily hadn't moved in the past thirty minutes, and Aria was snoring lightly. Spencer's eyes flickered open as Hanna gently shut the door behind her. She gave Hanna a sleepy smile.
"All good?" She whispered softly. Hanna nodded. Spencer nodded sleepily too before rolling over. As Hanna clambered back into her bed, she couldn't help but grin. These three girls had her back no matter what. They'd been through thick and thin together, and were sure to go through much more. The future was unknown, especially for Hanna. But she did know that the four of them would be there for each other through all of it. Hanna slowly drifted off to sleep, her hand resting gently on her stomach.
