Nostalgia

Hi, my name is y/n. I recently had to move back in with my parents. I went through a rough breakup and had to find a new place to live which happened to be my childhood home.

I just got home from work and decided to take a walk to the park. I yelled to my mom, "I'm going on a walk, I'll be back soon!" I know that I'm 26 but I still don't want my mom to worry. The sunset has always been breathtaking and today was no different. As I stepped outside the weight of the day lifted from my shoulders. I started my walk deep in thought of memories from my childhood. I can still remember where all my friends lived growing up. I started to feel nostalgic for my childhood. I can almost hear the laughter from the past while we were riding our bikes. I knew I never had to focus where I was going because I've walked to the park thousands of times. I could see the side walk change and I knew I was at the entrance of the park. I was still deep in thought and next thing I knew I bumped into a group of guys.

"Oh my gosh! I'm so sorry!" I looked up and saw the most beautiful blue eyes. After a moment I broke the stare and explained, "I was totally zoned out and I didn't see you guys here!"

"Don't worry about it.. I've never seen you around here before." Spoke another guy.

I explained to them how I just moved back home from a breakup but that I grew up here. They told me that they were visiting their parents. It was starting to get dark and I told them that I should get going before my parents start to worry.

"Well, we hope to see you around.. before you leave I'm Ryan this is my twin River, & our friend Wyatt." I shook all their hands and my stomach got a flutter when River's and my hands met. Ugh those blue eyes again. I start walking away back home. I hear River yell, "wait! What's your name?" I smirk and turn around, "I'm y/n" and give them a little wave & smile. I finally arrive home and couldn't stop thinking about those blue eyes...

The next day

BEEP..BEEP..BEEP!! My alarm blared in my ears. I smack my alarm off and sigh to myself, "another day in paradise..." I get up and go to the bathroom to get ready for the day. I make myself downstairs and my mom was making breakfast. She looks over her shoulder and says, "Good morning sweetie. I missed you last evening, how was your walk?" I slightly smiled thinking about those blue eyes. "It was good, I've missed home." She gave me a plate with chocolate chip pancakes, my favorite. I thanked my mom and gave her a hug goodbye. My mom and I have never been close but since moving back home we have started to grow closer. I got into my car and went to work.

After work

I pull into the driveway and go inside. My mom was cooking dinner and my dad was in the living room watching tv. "Hi mom & dad, I'm home." I said. "How was work, sweetie?" My mom asked. "It was long, I'm looking forward to dinner. I'm starving!" I said. "Good, I'm making your favorite.. lasagna!" My mom exclaimed. "Oooooo yum!" I said. We gathered around the table and had dinner together. My mom & dad have been married for 30 years & I swear they were still in their honeymoon phase. I want that type of love...

I helped my mom clear off the table and I went to my bedroom to change out of my work clothes. I should go on another walk before I settle in for the day. I changed into some yoga pants and a t-shirt and my black vans. As I was leaving I told my parents I was leaving and would be back later. As I was leaving I saw that beautiful orange sunset and I couldn't help but take a deep breath and take it all in. Today I decided I should listen to some music on my walk, I turned on some LoFi Hip Hop and started walking. I couldn't help but feel nostalgic again for my childhood and the memories I cherish here. I start rubbing my arms, it's a little chilly today. I feel a tap on my shoulder that made me jump and I whip around quickly about to punch someone. Blue eyes.

My body relaxes and I take out my headphones and I smile, "Hi River, you scared me!" He smiles back at me. "I'm sorry, I yelled your names a couple times but you didn't hear me. I should call you zone out girl because you're always so deep in thought." I wanted to say something back but got lost in those eyes. I could feel my cheeks turning red but I couldn't look away. I'm not sure if River noticed but he broke the silence and said, "You look cold, let me give you my jacket and we can continue walking together." He put his jacket around my shoulder which caused me to blush. "Oh, thank you. Are you sure you won't be too cold?" I asked. "No, it's fine. I don't mind the cold." He replied back smiling. I gave him a reassuring nod and we continued to walk to the park. The first couple of minutes were filled with awkward silence until I was brave enough to break the silence. "So... you mentioned you were visiting your parents. I don't remember you guys growing up here." I said. "That's because they just moved here and we are helping them settle in and unpack everything." he replied. I smiled at the thought that they made time to help their parents. "It's right next to the park, do you want to come over for a little while?" he asked. I start giggling, "How do you know I'm not a serial killer?" He laughed back, "How do you know I'm not one?" I continue to laugh with him and put out my hand. "If you don't kill me, I won't kill you.. deal?" He takes my hand and shakes it. "Deal!"

We continued some small talk and we arrived to his parents house. He opens the door for me and invites me in. "What a gentleman." I thought to myself. He enters the house and yells, "RYAN! WYATT! I'M BACK!" I hear some foot steps and Ryan and Wyatt appear around the corner. "Oh, hey y/n! Long time no see." Said Ryan. "Hi y/n!" Said Wyatt. I gave them a wave and smile. River gestured to follow him to the living room. As I was following behind him I couldn't help but admire some of the beautiful decorations that had already been unpacked. I can only imagine how beautiful it will be when they're done. "Earth to y/n!" said Ryan. I whip my head around, "Sorry! I was admiring all the cool things your parents have here." I smile. "Now I see why you call her zone out girl, River." He laughed. My cheeks turned red and I shot River a glare. "I was asking you if you have lived here long?" asked Ryan. "Oh, yeah. Well, I grew up here and I moved out when I was 18 with my boyfriend at the time but we broke up about a month ago and I didn't have anywhere else to go but home. Although, I'm 26 now and living at home which isn't exactly ideal but it's been healing me." I said. "Wow, you and your ex were together for 8 years. That must be really rough. How have you been holding up?" He asked. "Yeah, It has been hard.. You think you know the person you thought you would spend the rest of life with and they turn around and hurt you in one of the worst ways possible.." I look at the floor. "I'm sorry y/n.." says Ryan. Wyatt nods in agreement. I think River could see this conversation made me uncomfortable and changed the subject. "When will mom and dad be back?" He asks. "Uhhh.. anytime now." said Ryan. "Y/n, do you have time to watch a movie or play a game?" Asked River. "It's getting kind of late, I have to work in the morning. Maybe tomorrow? If the invitations still open?" I said. "Yeah, of course. Let me walk you back home." River offered. "Oh, you don't have to do that. I'll be okay." I replied back. "I insist, let me walk you home zone out girl." as he smirked. I gave him a glare, "Fine!"
