In a quaint corner of Tea Story, I glared at Kiss and Gazal, who were feasting on my annoyance and irritation for lunch with a side of me questioning why I ever befriended such a pair of terrorists. The atmosphere was charged with camaraderie and inside me, an underlying current of playful tension reached and searched for a certain 5' 9" saree wearing enchantress with a sharp tongue and sharper wit.
She was late.
Two of her slightly responsible employees were handling the patrons. Ravi and Karina from what I heard them communicating with each other. Both were messy. The man didn't know the first three alphabets of serving and waiting tables. And the tall, dark woman seemed to despise the world and the existence of breathing humans. Karina. The night personified. I couldn't help but remember Kiss' words when he teased Ikka. She was indeed. A beautiful woman adorned in a black silk salwar kameez that draped gracefully around her tall figure. Her beauty was nothing short of breathtaking— Her skin, a stunning shade of deep black, was reminiscent of the velvety night sky.
There was a possibility it was this Karina.
The miraculous woman who caught the psycho's eye.
Kiss gave me a knowing glance while Gazal commented on how enviously pretty Karina was and how both of their outfits matched. The pretty little demon was pure like that. She appreciated everything around her. Except me apparantly. But I knew she loved for me. Like a big sister. A mother. Her skin was a shade lighter than Katha's, a round baby face with big eyes, a little blunt nose, and full lips. Her long raven hair was confined in her signature ponytail and small figure wrapped in a peach and yellow Salwar Kameez.
"So, Katha's been quite the topic of our conversations lately." Kiss grinned like a dog on crack.
Gazal arched an eyebrow, her eyes dancing with mischief, "Katha ? Owner of this haven ? Oh, do tell, Kiss."
Too proud of himself, he placed his elbows on the table as if getting ready to reveal deepest darkest secrets of the Queen of United Kingdom,"Yes ! Rumor has it, she's got quite the admirer."
Now I had all of the five foot demon's attention who seemed to have made it her life's sole mission to get on my nerves, stomp on them and burn my money to the ground after guilt tripping me into believing I put her life in danger for completing small jobs like keeping eyes on our lady business rivals.
"Ah, I've noticed your attentions wandering from the city to this particular tea shop. Care to share the secret ingredient in those steaming concoctions ?" She waggled her eyebrows looking like a comical little dwarf.
I rolled my eyes, "As much as I'd like to entertain you two, I have a city to run, unlike some people who have the luxury of leisurely banter."
Gazal mockingly clutched her heart, feigning offense.
"Oh, Kiki, you wound me with your piercing observations. Perhaps I'll drown my sorrows in my towering cup of tea while you run your 'city'"
"Speaking of drowning, Gaz, did you hear? Kalki referred to you as a dwarf again." That bastard. I leveled him with a murderous glare and gathered my things from the table just in case I had to run for life. I slowly turned my head back to the demon who looked ready to strangle me with her tiny, delicate fingers.
"Did you forget I drowned you in our pond the last time, Sweet Kiki ?" She asked, head cocked and eyes sinister appearing possessed. Gazal could be scary when she wanted to be. No wonder she handled Kiss and handed him his balls at least twice a day.
A smirk curled my lips. She was as breakable as a twig. "You may be short in stature, Gaz, but your temper more than makes up for it."
Her eyes narrowed, "Oh keep them coming, Kiki, got any more 'endearing' nicknames and observations to bestow upon good ole' me ?"
