Nine days had passed since Johnson's interrogation. Pico, as usual, spent time with... little friend? Despite the age difference, they communicated as equals. Pico also taught him various things, just like a perfect older brother. Meanwhile, Jessica started worrying about his continued visits. Passing by them, she struck up a conversation on this topic.
Jessica: 'Pico, aren't you tired of this? Or do you not understand the situation well?'
Pico: 'What are you talking about?'
Jessica: 'Haven't you realized? Johnson is at a dead end. He can't make progress in the case, and consequently, we won't finalize the agreement.'
Pico's gaze changed in an instant. He looked intently at her from under his lashes, radiating unwavering confidence.
Pico: 'Do you really think this bothers me? No matter what difficulties the paperwork faces, everything will change in due time. I, no, we've made a decision. We'll be together, whatever challenges arise. Right?'
Boyfriend: 'Beep.'
Jessica: 'I understand you, but if this continues, I'll have to impose some limitations on visits.'
Pico: 'As you wish, it's on your conscience.'
Nonetheless, he has more than enough courage. At least for now. After spending time with the kid, Pico decided to take a stroll around the city. Quite a rare occurrence, to wander without a reason. He didn't know, a problem was about to present itself.
It so happened that Senior Lieutenant Vivian Lee came to the city for work. She took her duties very seriously, but that didn't stop her from being approachable. Vivian was determined to find Pico and collect a debt owed to him. And so, during a patrol, she spots him. She approaches with two colleagues. Her expression was serious, and her gaze moved from top to bottom as she looked at him. It seemed like fun times were ahead.
Vivian: 'Mr. Pico, isn't it?'
He tried to respond calmly, keeping his composure.
Pico: 'Well I, with whom I have the honor to speak?'
Vivian: 'I'm your conscience and also your judge. Could you come with us to the station?'
Pico: 'Ah, I see you're quite the humorous person (sarcasm). Or are you threatening me on duty?'
Vivian: 'Let's see how well you sing at the station.'
Pico: 'Sure, good luck.'
Two police officers began to apprehend him, something he didn't anticipate. Pico began to panic and contest their decision, but he realized it was legitimate when Vivian responded.
"Vivian: 'Shut up, worm. Don't create more problems for yourself.'
She said this with her back turned to him, not even bothering to glance in his direction.
At the police station, both sides achieved nothing. They didn't tell him what he was being charged with, and he also didn't answer any questions, demanding a lawyer. By evening, his lawyer arrived, but everything was proceeding slowly. It wasn't until eight in the evening that the situation became clear. The lawyer approached the makeshift cell where they had put Pico and briefed him on the case.
Lawyer: 'Alright, listen. The case is shit. You're being charged with murder. It's about an incident at a school in a nearby city that happened 10 years ago.'
