"Look me in my eyes, don't that feel nice?"

- Bryson Tiller

Damien sat across from her at the dinner table. Elana made it known that her hatred towards him had grown. She couldn't look at him without glaring. He noticed but acted as if he hadn't.

He liked having something between the two of them. A secret. Nova sat right beside them yet she had no idea that Elana was screaming his name just last night.

Elana turned to Nova, her eyes softening. "So, how'd work go?" She asked.

Nova was a nurse in-training at their local hospital. She always had interesting stories to tell about her co-workers or fleeting gossip, but today she just said; "Boring. Nothing much happened and, believe it or not, I had to actually work."

Elana chuckled and cloned her sarcasm in her own response. "Really? Working at work? That's insane."

"I know, right?" Nova smiled.

"I had something interesting happen to me last night." Elana's eyes widened at Damien's words, panic flurried in them. Her heart raced.

What was he doing?

She kicked his shin underneath the table but Damien ignored her. He looked directly at her instead and continued speaking. "Can you believe that Marissa texted me for the first time in years?"

Elana released the breath she was holding. Asshole.

"Marissa?" Nova exclaimed as if she hadn't heard correctly. "As in our sister Marissa?"

"Mhm,"

In their family, Marissa was known as the bitch older sister who had left them once their parents passed. Several years ago, she had started her own company and was now swimming in self-made riches. To Marissa, work and money was more important than family. She had that mindset even when her parents were alive.

"What did she say?" Nova asked.

"She invited us to her wedding." Damien picked up his drink and took a sip.

"Fuck no!" Nova exclaimed, causing them both to flinch. "I'm not going to a stupid wedding. She thinks she can run away and suddenly come back after all these years?"

"Nova, calm down." Damien attempted.

"No, I'm not gonna fucking calm down. Its hilarious that she can escape this life, her family, and just randomly text. Not even a call. She couldn't even do a call."

"Is it better if I tell you it's in Hawaii?" Damien asked, his eyebrows raised.

Nova lowered her voice until it was just stern instead of spiteful. "No, that doesn't make it better."

"Fine, don't go. But I'm going-" he gestured to Elana- "and I'm taking her with me."

*****

"What the fuck were you thinking?" Elana yelled at Damien. "I'm not going anywhere with you. Why do you want to go anyway? Didn't Marissa leave for years?"

"Yeah, and? It's Hawaii."

"I don't care if it's Hawaii or fucking Dubái, I'm not going anywhere with you."

Damien leaned against the door frame structuring the entrance to his bedroom, a hand overhead. He looked out into the hallway where she stood in outrage. "Listen, princess-"

"Don't call me that." She scowled and Damien almost chuckled at her adorableness. He couldn't even take her seriously! Fucking asshole.

"Marissa stupidly paid for two plane tickets thinking Nova would be going. I don't like to waste shit." He shrugged.
