The final bell of the classroom rang through the teaching building, startling a sparrow nestled in the shade under the patio. The bird took flight, its wings cutting across the sky.

Two young girls' shadows were cast on the path, a play of light and shade. The old low-rise buildings were adorned with evergreen vines. The scent of disinfectant greeted Ji Xiao and Wei Qingyu as they entered the hallway.

Ji Xiao still accompanied Wei Qingyu to the school hospital.

Wei Qingyu clutched the small suit jacket on her shoulders, a faint hint of peach brandy lingering in the air.

She knew better than to trust Ji Xiao, yet when she raised herself up, she found her foot moving, and she walked away.

The hospital corridor's lighting softly bathed Wei Qingyu as she moved, and the girl before her seemed somehow different.

In the clinic, a young Beta woman was the doctor. As she saw Wei Qingyu's palm injury, she frowned involuntarily. "Young student, how did you get this?"

"From a glass scratch," Wei Qingyu replied succinctly, withdrawing her thoughts.

"Scratch? it seems too deep. Did someone deliberately do this to you?" The doctor inquired while preparing a sterile cotton swab.

Wei Qingyu remained silent. She didn't want to divulge what had just transpired.

The doctor didn't let it go, "Was there some kind of bullying? This isn't something to just endure and let go. You should report it to your homeroom teacher."

Doctor: "Don't worry, the school will handle this fairly."

Wei Qingyu uttered a monotonous "um" and said, "But I caused this injury myself, so please just treat it."

Her voice held a sense of detachment, a reluctance to engage.

The doctor was taken aback, picking up the cotton swab in hand. "Alright, if you don't want to discuss it, I won't press further. Brace yourself; this might hurt."

Wei Qingyu gave a faint nod, palms spread out, her posture upright as the doctor attended to her wound.

Brown iodine-soaked cotton swabs swirled around the wound, staining them red with blood.

The once tidy wounds turned a grotesque white when soaked, starkly contrasting the surrounding skin.

Ji Xiao stood behind Wei Qingyu, watching her. Each drop of the cotton swab seemed to strike her heart.

She couldn't help but glance at Wei Qingyu's face. It was calm, her cold eyes observing the doctor's ministrations on her wound with unwavering poise. There was no sign of pain on her face.

Was this the heroine?

Ji Xiao couldn't help but sigh inwardly. Wei Qingyu must possess an extraordinary strength of heart.

After a while, a soft "thud" echoed as the tray was set down.

The doctor released the tweezers in their grasp and sighed, "If the wound were any deeper, you'd need stitches."

"Yes," Wei Qingyu responded indifferently.

The doctor, seemingly accustomed to Wei Qingyu's aloofness, smiled in response. "Dealing with wounds big and small is a common occurrence for me, but you're the first to remain this composed."

Wei Qingyu's lips slightly pursed upon hearing those words.

Ji Xiao noted the faint whitening at the side of her lips.

Light from above softly illuminated Wei Qingyu, and upon closer inspection, Ji Xiao could discern a tautness in her expression.

Long wet strands of hair concealed sweat beading on her forehead, and Ji Xiao caught a glimpse of her fluttering eyelashes.
