Prologue

The feathers fell as blood spread out in mourning of its master.

It was a cold winter night. Snow flitted lightly on the breeze, unaware of the wrongs of the world beneath it.

Demons kill angels. That was the law I was taught. Angels vanquish darkness, they purge the world of evil.

We were supposed to get hot cocoa in the shop on the corner. The engagement ring hung heavily in my pocket, burning from my despair.

Even in death, her pale face shone with a godly beauty incomparable to all of creation. Her red stained lips parted, the last breath leaving her body in a sigh.

The king of hell removed his scythe from her throat. "Demons kills angels. This is the way of the world, my daughter."
