Chapter 1: Mysterious Arrival

As evening approached, Detective Samuel Everhart returned to his quaint apartment in the heart of Eldridge. He hung his cloak on the rack and relaxed into a comfortable chair. He was staring out the window thoughtfully when the doorbell rang. It was getting late, so he wasn't sure who it could be.He stood carefully and walked to the door. When he opened it, an elderly woman with long gray hair and an enigmatic smile was standing casually in the doorway. A letter rested in her hands. Samuel glanced over him.
"Mr. Everhart," the woman said with a mysterious look, "I hope you don't mind that I came without warning. This is for you." Looking at her with a frown, Detective Samuel nodded, accepted the letter and then returned to the apartment where he opened it. The handwriting was unknown and there was no sender on the envelope either. The letter contained only a few words: "Unravel the mysteries of the forgotten residence to reveal the truth that lies in the darkness of the past."
Detective Samuel put the letter on the table and looked out the window. It was strange, but he was intrigued. It was as if the past woke up and came to visit him in the form of an anonymous letter. The residence was known to be mysterious. It has been standing there for almost a century. Everyone in Eldridge City knew about it, but few dared to enter it. It was connected to the mystery of the missing Thornfield family, which lived there since the 19th century. Many residents of the city of Eldridge said that they were strange people, often they did not even leave the residence. One day, however, the public noticed that there was an unusual silence around the residence. So they sent the police there, who discovered that the residence was completely empty. Since that event, it was as if the ground had collapsed under the Thornfields. It was now 1967. No one had heard anything about them until now. Only occasionally were rumors spread here and there about supernatural phenomena that were said to be behind their disappearance. To this day, this mystery remains unsolved and the residence just stood there and decayed. Samuel decided to find out more information about this residence and began searching his library. After some time, he found a memory album of the city of Eldridge, which contained old photographs of the residence and story articles about the missing family. He opened the album and his eyes met a touching photo of a happy family standing in front of the rusty gates of the residence.Sensitive to this old mystery, Detective Samuel decided that this case deserved his attention. He lit a lamp, took a pen and began to think about how he would embark on a search for the "Mysteries of the Forgotten Residence", which could reveal the truth that was lost in the shadows of the past.
