"Good morning Pookie, how was work yesterday?" The said squirrel sighed and chewed her Acorn Crunchies cereal in a dream like state as I asked. " Oh Y/n, you should've been there." "So... I'll take that as it went well." Her habit of making clicking noises with her mouth when she fangirls over something started to kick in, a hum accompanying it. She came back to reality when I snapped my fingers to get her attention, "Anyway, how were things while I was gone?" I sat down in front of her with my eggs and bacon, ready to explain my adventures from yesterday.
"You got to see Mrs. Yearling? That's wonderful! I always go check up on her every other week, she's getting up in her years ya know?" I nodded and sipped my (favorite Juice). "You have to admit though Pookie, she looks like an ageless Duchess or Countess." "You're right, we can't deny that." "Mmhm, though while I was out I came across this designer store and it brought me back to when I made doll dresses in high school." Pookie gasped, "I still have the Clarabelle doll dress you sent me. It was beautiful. Are you saying you got inspired yesterday?! I wanna see the finished design!" I laughed at her excited bouncing. "I did, and since I missed the beaches here I thought I'd go for something summer related." Her eyes turned into stars, literally. I mean come on, we're toons. It's possible. "Pleeeaaaseee! Let me take pictures of you modeling to post on my Toonagram!" "Alright alright, I have to make it first." I finished my breakfast and went out shopping with Pookie after cleaning up the dishes.
"Hmm, which fabric color Pookie?"
"Well why not these blues?"
"Perfect!"
We bought multiple rolls of fabric and items to see into the dress, I haven't felt this inspired in a long time! We rushed back home with our purchases, I almost missed the flash of red when we ran past a place called The Ink and Paint Club. Isn't that where Pookie works? That red I saw was a man walking into that place, only looking back to see where that gust of wind came from. I guess we're just that fast huh?
I didn't have time to look over his features, but I did make eye contact. They were a pretty green color, but I couldn't stare long so I brought back my focus to where I was going. We were both huffing and puffing when we got inside the house, so much for stamina. I followed Pookie to a room that was next to bedroom."Ok Y/n, so I prepared a studio like place for you in case you wanted to continue designing. It's got everything you need, so don't worry." She opened the door and revealed a studio that looked so professional that I was speechless. A desk, sewing machine, dress rack, shelving units for needles and thread, more shelves for fabric, a cork wall to pin designs, supplies for drawing said designs, even bodice stands.
It was all set and ready.
"Holy moly Pookie, you came prepared."
"Well, I was actually going to invite you to stay if you didn't ask me when you did."
We hugged and curled out tails together like we used to, getting to work right after.
"Ok Pookie, I'mma need you to measure me and write down the measurements."
"On it."
When she finished I started to draw out the baseline for the figure, then drew out the details. That in itself took all afternoon, with a lunch break in the mix.
"Ok, here's the sketch."
Pookie gasped and grinned, "It's gonna be beautiful! As all your designs are."
"Hehe. So, now that that's done you have a job to get to and I will go to bed. I can start on actually making the dress tomorrow, and for that I'mma need some privacy since it's a bigger project than the doll sized dresses." "Ok, I'll ask about an extra shift at work to keep me busy." We high fived at our awesome plan. I missed the friendship we had as kids. It's been 4 days since I started the dress, and I finally finished yesterday. Today I'll be modeling it for Pookie. We took a few pictures at home with a beautiful backdrop, but then decided to take the photoshoot to the beach.
"Ok, where do you want me to stand? How should I pose?" She deliberately waited till sunset and moved me closer to the water, gave me a conch shell, and sprawled the skirt of the dress out along the water as I was knelt down on my knees. A soft wind brushed my hair back and then..

A few pictures were taken at different angles, I couldn't see properly since I was looking at the pretty shell. She then took me to a rock the hung over the water, having me face the sunset for a few pictures and then look over my shoulder over to the camera. Next was laying in the sand in the now shining moon light, and then looking at the camera waist deep in the water."Ok, let's head back now. I wanna show you these works of art."
Next thing I know she and I are editing the photos, and I gotta say, they are breathtaking. Once the editing was done she posted her best ones on Toonagram, then we ate dinner and went to bed.
It really feels like time has flown by so fast already. But hey, I'm excited for the results.
