LEAVING THE VILLAGE

The Village, originally called Griffin Village, is the home away from home for anyone who lives in the Perdita Region. It's recognized as the "starting town" for new trainers due to it being the only point in the region with a professor or pokemon lab.

Professor Griffin, the official pokemon professor in Roria, is known for having access to a large and vast amount of "starter pokemon", although the rules regarding who gets them stays the same. When it comes to getting your first pokemon, the legal age to acquire one is ten years old- so long as the child has some sort of adult supervision. The only way one can acquire a pokemon is by having ties with a professor, resulting in one being given to the child, buying one off the hands of another, catching a pokemon, or being gifted one.

Some wonder how exactly Professor Griffin is able to acquire such starter pokemon, and so many of them, and all that she's revealed is that she has ties with numerous people across the world, some even sitting in The Village alongside her. Two being a couple of famous archeologists and scientists, Mr. and Mrs. Iacomus. Mrs. Iacomous is the main researcher, and Mr. being her partner. He was originally a long-time pokemon master, winning leagues time and time again against his foes until he decided to settle down.

Some time after the couple had decided to live in The Village, they had a daughter, Maeve, who- just like every other child- wanted to become a pokemon master. Her father in particular hyped her up for this very moment, and the family waited the full ten years until the day she was finally able to get her pokemon.

"Well, missy." Professor Griffin turned to Maeve, leaning on the wall with her arms crossed, "You and I both know why you're here. But I have just ONE question before I give you your very own starter pokemon."

The professor looked the girl up and down, eyes darting from her bow-shaped hair to her dress, before cocking her head to the side slightly, "Why sixteen?"

"Huh?" Maeve hummed, giving her bag strap a light tug and inherently dodging Professor Griffin's gaze.

The woman scoffed, "Yeah, I know you were hoping I wouldn't ask you anything, but I am now! I'm damn near the smartest woman in the region and I couldn't figure out why you would wait six years to get your starter pokemon. Or any pokemon for that matter!"

"Mm..." Maeve pressed her mouth into a tight line. She'd been awaiting this question, although she still couldn't choose between her couple of excuses set to the side, because they all sounded like crap- which they were, "I was studying.."

"Studying what?"

"The only thing there is to study? Pokemon." Maeve tried to push the believability by making this sound like common sense, but that didn't seem to work, as Professor Griffin only fiddled with her ID with her fingers, awaiting a more believable excuse.

Sucking in air through her teeth, Maeve leaned back and forth on her feet before speaking again, "You'll laugh..."

"Maybe." Professor Griffin cracked a smile, her attention shifting back to Maeve, awaiting the chance to make fun of her.

"So...my dad..." Maeve started, and Griffin immediately scoffed. It was clear that she was expecting Maeve's dad to be behind Maeve's sudden lack in excitement about her possible new pokemon six years ago, "I was literally on my way to your lab, and my dad pulled me aside. He told me that if I really was serious about getting a "stronger-than-I-am-pokemon", then I needed to know the risks."

Maeve fiddled with her dress and continued, "He told me about this stupid "accident" that happened with his brother and his pikachu up in a mountain." She made air quotes with her fingers and rolled her eyes, "Said that some sickness he got turned him into this "super terrifying and super dangerous animal". And of course my stupid ass believed it."
