The Night Before Beach City

---

Honey either didn't hear Maeve's calls or was too upset to listen, and continued to soar towards the fleeing Oddish. The Oddish in question moved at a speedy pace in desperation, diving through bushes that Honey flew over, and that Maeve had to jump over. Eventually, the Oddish ran across a narrow pathway blocked by a tree that it was unable to climb.

It spun around, seeing Honey hovering over it intimidatingly. As Maeve approached the two pokemon and turned to scold Honey, the Oddish suddenly shot a purple slush of poison Honey's way.

Honeycreeper let out a sound that imitated something of a cough or sneeze as the poison splashed against him, and quickly retreated back to Maeve. She gazed at him with concern, "Are..you okay?"

Honey shook his head, although Maeve didn't know if that was a "no" or if he was simply attempting to shake the poison off. She saw the shiny purple liquid stuck on the feathers on his face as he squinted his eyes in pain.

As the Oddish also saw the poison dripping from Honey, it hopped up with a victorious squeal, as if laughing at Honey.

"We can retreat, Honey." Maeve offered. She wasn't willing to have Honey face with yet another loss- especially all in the same day.

Honeycreeper in return, shook his head again, more urgently. He gave her something between a pleading look and an angry look, before hovering forward- albeit clumsily- towards the prepared Oddish again.

"Oh, alright. At the very least take this." Maeve fished something from out of her pocket, a vile of the same purple color of the poison, albeit a bit lighter. Honey slowly hovered back to Maeve, snatching the poison remedy with his claw.

The Oddish glared at Maeve and Honey before forming a bright green ball above itself. Maeve spoke to Honey, "That looks like absorb. It only moves one way so you can fly underneath it and strike the Oddish. Okay?"

Honeycreeper nodded as the ball of green shot his way. As Maeve instructed, he dove downwards, flying right beneath it, making a beeline for the Oddish. The Oddish in turn, attempted to jump from Honey's line of attack, but ultimately failed as Honey crashed into it. The Oddish flung into the tree behind it, yelping in pain.

"Leafage! Keep it against the tree!" Maeve snapped anxiously, urging Honey to do so quickly.

Honey raised his wings, picking up the leaves from the surrounding trees and from the ground up with the wing he created. As he shot the many, many leaves towards the Oddish, it was unable to do anything but take the hit.

Thankfully- despite Leafage in particular not doing the most damage to yet another grass-type pokemon, it seemed to be enough to weaken it.

Maeve flinched, having been lost in the battle, and quickly unclipped a pokeball from her belt, tossing it at the defeated Oddish. Honey slowed down his flapping, quietly landing on the grass. He felt nervous, having never really seeing the capture process before, and looked back to Maeve. She seemed twice as nervous as he did as she watched the pokeball shake vigurously.

Once it shook.

Twice it shook, and Maeve flinched at how much harder that one was.

A final third time, and...

The pokeball let out a dainty chime at the same time Maeve's muffled pokedex did. The auto-voice came out of the pokedex:

"Congratulations, Trainer Maeve! You have caught your very first pokemon! Oddish's information has been added to your pokedex!"

Maeve gasped as Honey let out a relieved sigh. This relief was short lived as he was suddenly roughly scooped up by Maeve, who nearly jumped with excitement, hugging Honey tightly to her face.
