As the day of the grand prix dawned, Valentina found herself at the entrance of the race track, a guest of the AlphaTauri team thanks to Pierre. She stood alongside Sophie, Nick, and Alex, ready to enjoy the grand prix from the AlphaTauri hospitality area. Kika, Pierre's girlfriend, had arrived early with him and was supposed to meet them inside.
Walking through the paddock towards the garage, Valentina's heart raced. She hoped to avoid any unexpected encounters, especially with the Spanish driver who had stirred a mix of emotions in her. Initially successful in her endeavour, she was soon led on a paddock tour with Francisca and the rest of the group. Stepping aside for a phone call, she had ventured away from the group, hoping to remain out of sight and away from the Ferrari garage.
However, luck didn't seem to be on her side that day. In the midst of her wandering, she was spotted by none other than Carlos's parents, who appeared thrilled to see her. Reyes exclaimed, "Oh, Dr. Valentina! It's wonderful to see you here. I had no idea you were an F1 fan."
Valentina offered a polite smile. "I do enjoy motorsport very much, actually."
Carlos's dad noticed her AlphaTauri VIP pass. "Are you with AlphaTauri?"
"Pierre Gasly is my brother-in-law's cousin. He arranged these passes for us," Valentina explained.
With a nod of understanding, the conversation flowed smoothly until Reyes had another idea. "You should come to the Ferrari garage with us. Ana, my daughter, has been eager to meet you, especially since I no longer fear dentists thanks to you. There's still time before the race. Join us for a drink, and then you can head back to AlphaTauri."
Valentina hesitated, not wanting to impose. But Carlos's dad was insistent. "Please, our son drives for Ferrari. I don't think they'd mind us having a guest. Come along."
Caught in a whirlwind of unexpected events, Valentina found herself being guided towards the Ferrari garage.
Inside the Ferrari hospitality suite, Valentina was introduced to Ana, Carlos's sister. They engaged in a warm and friendly conversation, the awkwardness from earlier melting away in the light of Ana's kindness. However, the atmosphere shifted as Carlos walked in, their eyes meeting in a moment charged with unspoken sentiments.
"Valentina?" Carlos's voice broke the silence, his surprise evident.
"Carlos," she replied calmly, meeting his gaze head-on.
He inquired, "Here with Pierre?"
Valentina nodded, her lips curving into a small smile. "Yes, I am. Met your parents outside, actually."
Carlos's response was a simple, "Oh." The familiarity between them was palpable, though neither chose to acknowledge it at that moment. Reyes sensed the connection but opted not to delve deeper into it.
Valentina broke the silence, suggesting, "I think I should head back. My friends might be wondering."
Carlos offered, "I'll walk you out. I have interviews to attend anyway."
As they walked side by side, the air between them was charged with unspoken thoughts. The silence seemed to mirror the unsolved questions lingering in the space between them. When they reached the outside of the garage, Carlos spoke softly, "I hope you enjoy the race."
Valentina's response was filled with sincerity, "Best of luck. I hope you achieve the best results."
With those words, they parted ways, each stepping back into their own worlds. Inside the Ferrari garage, Reyes couldn't help but observe the scene. "They know each other," she remarked.
Carlos's father chimed in, "Of course, she's your dentist. They've met."
But Reyes clarified, "No, no. I meant they know each other beyond that. There was a familiarity between them."
Ana and Carlos Sr. exchanged knowing looks, a silent exchange that held a wealth of unspoken thoughts.
Back at the AlphaTauri garage, Valentina faced a barrage of excited questions from her friends about her whereabouts. She simply mentioned that she had been to the Ferrari garage, letting their curiosity hang in the air. Instead of diving into explanations or gossip, she shifted her focus to the race that was about to begin.
