CHAPTER FIFTEEN

I skip the rest of my classes for the day, seeking comfort in the soft sheets of my bed. It works for the first three hours— until I am unexpectedly interrupted by a loud knock that resonates through my entire room.

Grimaging at the noise, I wonder who could be on the other side of the wooden door. With most of my roommates absent or no longer living here, I find myself hesitant to engage with whoever is standing on the other side of the door.

I ignore the persistent knocking, not wanting to entertain company at this moment. However, it becomes apparent that the person at the door is not picking up on my silent refusal or the message behind my lack of response.

Reluctantly, I drag myself out of bed and trudge towards the door, my annoyance evident. I pull it open with a snap, my tone sharp as I ask, ❝what?

A concerned Mattheo stands on the other side, his eyes immediately scanning me as if searching for something. ❝Are you okay?❞ He eventually asks me, stepping inside and closing the door behind him.

He doesn't give me the opportunity to respond to him, his lips parting again. ❝You weren't responding to my texts, and I couldn't find you after class. I overheard someone saying you didn't show up to class and I thought that something had happened to you, you know, something bad,❞ Mattheo starts to ramble.

I watch him, feeling guilt blossom inside of me at his palpable concern for my well-being. My eyebrows crease over my forehead as it dawns on me that I matter to him.

His hands gently cup my face, drawing me closer to him. In the quiet intimacy of the room, he whispers, ❝what's wrong, angel?

The tenderness in his voice shakes me, and my lower lip wobbles as I confess, ❝I'm just having a really bad day,❞ my voice breaking at the end.

His eyes soften even further, and I find comfort in the warmth of his gaze, contrasting the cold and detached demeanor he usually displays around others. ❝A bad day, hm?❞ he murmurs, his thumbs caressing my face.

Leaning into his touch, I nod, my eyes closing. Mattheo pulls me into his chest, and I wrap my arms around his waist, seeking serenity in his embrace. His lips find the top of my head, and we stay like that for a while before eventually settling in bed together.

Lying on our sides, my body nestled against his chest, we find a sense of peace. Mattheo's arm is draped behind me, his other hand resting on the back of my neck as his fingers gently thread through my dark hair. My own hands rest at the back of his neck, and I bask in the warmth and closeness we share.

A soft blanket covers us, its green fabric providing a comforting touch. Slowly, I inch closer to Mattheo, feeling his hand slip into my shirt, his gentle touch now resting on the skin of my back.

This feels nice,❞ he tells me, his voice holding a hint of surprise.

Curious, I ask, ❝what do you mean?

His response takes a moment, but he eventually says, ❝it just feels nice to be close with you.

His words float in the air, and I savor the moment, feeling his lingering kiss on my forehead as we lie there together.
