"I thought you were out of town?" Wynn questioned, walking closer to Fenix and me.

And I couldn't begin to fight the remorse eating at me.

Not only did I lie to her, but I was with someone else.

Someone that I like very much—and even I knew no one would come close to Fenix.

Especially not Wynn.

It's sad because Wynn really liked me, and I just... if it were me, I know I'd be hurt.

"I um... I was," I finally said, feeling at a complete loss for words.

Wynn furrowed her brows, "And you weren't going to tell me you were back?" she questioned, clearly confused by my sudden appearance.

I blinked a few times, trying to find a reasonable explanation.

But there wasn't one.

I lied to her, ran off on a mission with a wanted assassin, and somehow fell for the assassin.

Meanwhile, Wynn seemed to be entirely worried about me while I was gone.

It was definitely fucked up—and while I felt empathetic, I definitely didn't regret it.

And that was even more fucked up.

"I was busy," I forced out the lie before I could even think it through—and I could tell that even Fenix knew it was a lie with the way she awkwardly pursed her lips.

Fuck this is extremely awkward.

Wynn tilted her head, "Does Yelena know your back? Will you finally be back on the job again?" she asked, clearly spilling out all of her unanswered questions.

Questions that I couldn't exactly spill the answer to—mostly because it was all a lie.

"We're actually only back in town to grab some stuff—we're headed back out again," Fenix suddenly spoke up, clearly looped into the lie.

It's clear that she knew this was an FBI-related matter.

And thank God that she knew to lie—or that she even decided to do so for me.

Wynn suddenly looked to Fenix, "We?" she questioned, looking back to me, "Who is this?" she asked, and by the disapproval in her tone—I knew this was all about to take a turn.

Fenix suddenly adjusted her posture, realizing that Wynn wasn't just a worried friend.

And before I could say one word, Fenix managed to say, "Her girlfriend—that's who."

Wynn's brows automatically shot up, clearly taken aback by the new information.

Shoot, even I was a little taken aback.

I mean, I knew we just set our claim on each other, but I didn't realize it came with the girlfriend label.

And I...

Well, I like it?

I liked the idea of being Fenix's girlfriend.

"Girlfriend? What about us?" Wynn said, suddenly taking a step toward me, which easily forced Fenix to step in front of me, blocking me from Wynn entirely, "Wow, this is quite entertaining, I mean you claim to be her girlfriend and then block me from even looking at her—maybe you should let D speak for herself," she challenged Fenix.

Yeah, this is definitely not about to go well.

"Back up first," Fenix demanded, and I could see Wynn sarcastically raise her arms in defense, taking a few steps back.
