VI. MEMORIES

2006

The sun was shining. The sakura trees lined on the sides of the path spread a sweet smell in the air. It was the first day of highschool. I walked into the Japanese building, the corridor was lined with classrooms and I slid open the door to the first year classroom. Inside there were two students already present.
"Hey! you must be the third student!" a raven haired boy yells excitedly as he turns towards the door.
"Yeah… I'm L/N Y/N." I reply as I walk in and take the only vacant seat in the classroom.
"I'm Haibara Yu!" he introduces himself, smiling brightly. He seems like a super upbeat and nice person…
"Oh and that's Nanami Kento!" he says pointing at the boy sitting on the desk next to mine. He had long blond hair and looked introverted.
"Hey!" he doesn't bother replying and I turn back to Yu.
"You're from the L/N clan?" The raven haired boy asks.
"Yeah…But I'm not half as impressive as the other sorcerers."
The doors to the classroom slam open.
"Yo, first years! We are your senpai!" A guy with white hair and round sunglasses yells.
"Look that one looks like the genderbend version L/N-Senpai!" His friend with black hair says as they both stare at me with extreme curiosity.
"I didn't know L/N-Senpai and Akane-chan had a child already." the white haired guy dramatically sighs and the raven haired guy laughs in response.
"Or she could be his sister." A brunette hits them both in the head and drags them away from me. "Sorry these two are defective." she says as the two of them start acting hurt. "I'm Ieri Shoko. What's your name?"
"I'm Y/N." It was kinda awkward with how everything happened so suddenly but I try to remain collected.
"I'm Gojo Satoru." he strikes a pose and smirks.
"I'm Geto Suguru." The raven haired smiled warmly and I returned his smile.
"What are you brats doing here?" a man enters the room, his voice is laced in annoyance.
He places the notebooks on the teacher's desk.
"I'm Yaga Masamichi, your teacher here at Tokyo Jujutsu high. Welcome." contrary to his words his voice is monotone and tired.

Time flew by and now we were on our way to the dorms after school.
"Woah the dorms look so cool!" Yu says happily as he looks around.
"It does! We're gonna have so much fun in highschool!" I reply equally excited. Nanami walks next to us not bothering to speak or match our energy, he walks into the first door in the building and slams the door shut.
"Guess that's his dorm." I say as Yu smiles at me.
"We'll get him to talk to us tomorrow!" he smiles hopefully.

"Urgh this sucks!" I yell in frustration as I throw my book away. I was trying to complete my homework, while Yu, Nanami and the second years were training together. They started laughing when I threw the book.
"You got this Y/N!" Gojo-senpai yells teasingly.
"This is pretty easy, actually." Nanami says, picking my books and looking through them.
"It is?" I say surprised.
"He's smarter than you are, Y/N." Shoko-senpai says laughing.
"Whatever…" I turn towards Nanami, "Nanami, you're literally the best person ever, can you please help me with this? please?"
"Sure." he starts to explain the whole concept to me in a pace that's easy to keep up with. When we finish, the sun's about to set, the sky a beautiful color of orange.
"Thankyou so much, Nanami!" I smile at him gratefully. He returns the smile and we walk to the cafeteria.
"Did you finish studying, Y/N?" Geto-senpai smiles warmly.

⋆⁺₊⋆ ☾⋆⁺₊⋆

"Y/N! Wake up!" Nanami yells from outside my dorm room.
"What do you want?" I walk out of the room, yawning.
"It's Haibara…" he says, his voice low and heavy with sorrow.
My expression changes at the statement. "Yu? What about him?"
He doesn't say more, just holds my hand and drags me to the clinic at the back of the school campus. The clinic is silent and the silence answers all my questions. I looked in horror as on one of the beds lied the unconscious body of our best friend. I couldn't believe what my eyes saw.

He was so excited to go on this solo mission…
He seemed so happy when he waved at us before leaving for his mission….

Nanami looks at me, his eyes red and teary. I can feel tears running down my own face and my eyes start to sting. The silence is disrupted by footsteps and Gojo-senpai comes into the clinic running.
"Nanami, Y/N!" he says, pausing a bit to catch his breath. "Are you two okay?"
Hearing those words just made us even sadder. We started sobbing and Gojo-senpai hugs us, awkwardly trying to calm us down.
"It's gonna be okay…" he says softly and hugs us tighter.

Not even a few days later I found Gojo-senpai sitting on a bench near the training grounds, all alone. His back was facing me and he seemed to be looking at the sky, deep in thought. I walk towards him, as I get nearer I hear sobs. He's crying.
I stood infront of him and hugged him. He hugged back, still crying. I draw circles on his back and wait for him to calm down.
"Are you alright?" I ask softly as he calms down. He nods in reply, his eyes still red from crying.
"What happened?"
"It's Suguru….he killed his parents and left the school." he sounds betrayed.
"Oh …. I'm sorry…" I say as I hugged him again.
"It's okay…. I'll be okay…I guess…" he says the last part in a low voice, barely audible.
"You'll be fine…" I say and he hugs me tighter.
"Thankyou, Y/N." he smiles softly as he pulls away from the hug.
"Just returning the favour." I smile back. "Feel free to talk to me about anything." I say before heading to the dorms.
