a couple long minutes later, police sirens were heard outside my house. i eagerly opened the bathroom door, clutching my phone like a weapon, held up high. muddy footprints were seen entering and leaving my room. i opened my door, everything was normal and nothing stolen.
weird, i thought. hearing loud knocking coming from my front door, i ran downstairs and was greeted with a man wearing a black hoodie that covered the top half of his face.
he stood infront of the front door, blocking my way. a small smirk appeared on his lips, taunting me."good evening," his raspy voice went through me, "you sure are one good-looking thing aren't ya?" he stepped closer to me, his hand trailed towards my chin and tilted my head upwards. he gave a chuckle to himself, letting go off my face before nudging past me to walk to my kitchen.
"Y/N! WE'RE COMING IN!" a young woman's voice yelled out, as my front door was then kicked open. i was left gob-smacked, as the woman took me by the arm and rushed me outside to her police car. the lieutenant and his squad then all ran inside my house.
"are you okay?" she asked me, letting go of my arm. her dark brown curls sculpted her tanned face, her hazel eyes filled with kindness. i looked down, at my house, then back to her, reading her name stitched on her uniform; officer, ruth weaver.
"i-i'm fine," i lied, "everyday gets brighter, i guess." ruth laughed at me, "you sure are humorous, especially after having your house being broken into." she gave a small smile, "you've already noticed, but my name's ruth. and lieutenant thatcher already told me your name - since he's the one who picked up your call."
"yeah.." i nodded. ruth rested against the door of her car, "did you see anybody inside?" she prompted me, flipping out a small notepad and pen from her pocket. "yes.. but he didn't show me his face." ruth widened her eyes, almost dropping what she was holding.
"could it have been an alternate?" she questioned, grabbing hold of her walky-talky and calling the lieutenant. "weaver here, i'm outside with y/n - have you seen anybody inside yet?" she paused, distorted crackling noises coming from the lieutenant's end..
"y/n.. sit in the car.." ruth opened the passenger door for me practically pushing me inside. she closed the door once i was sat, "stay here!" she commanded me behind the glass, "don't come out until i get back." she smiled, before running back towards my house.
she disappeared inside, anxiety began to kick-in as i was stranded inside a police car at the dead of night, right after my house was broken in to by some.. thing.. feeling drowsy, i rested my head against the inside of the door. i was helpless anyway. i closed my eyes, feeling myself drift off into sleep. the last thing i see, was a black figure watching me from the distance.
