(Work today sucked. Why not write a cute and sweet fanfic to get my mind off of it? Also a warning, guys. I'm gonna fuck y'all up with angst at the end. ☺️ and another warning, this fic does contain spoilers at the end. Give Call of Cthulhu a play, it's SO FUCKING GOOD)

"Ms. Colden?" Ethan spoke up. Yeah, he met the doctor before. She patched him up numerous times before. When you're working the police force in Darkwater, you're bound to get stabbed or shot by some drunken fool. Fools, (a plural) if you're breaking up a fight and they BOTH turn on you.
"Ethan, it's lovely to see- Oh my goodness..." Her soft voice was all that he needed to hear to feel better. But he didn't exactly enjoy the concern in her voice.
She stepped closer to the officer, reaching her hand out towards his bloodied cheek.
"What on earth happened to you...?" She asked him, taking his hand away from the slightly dripping wound. "Never mind, come with me. I can ask questions later."
Marie took Ethan's arm delicately into her hands and guided him through the hospital. His heart was racing, not from the new scar he'd gotten from Baker, but from the doctor's gentle voice and touch.
It was the best part about these doctor visits...
She needed a room, something to clean and patch the wound, and then she could ask what happened.
Once the room was obtained, she sat him down. Marie put on her gloves, and grabbed any needed medical equipment.
"Ethan, do you mind telling me what happened?" Her gentle voice in a room like this... It sounded nothing but beautiful and comforting...
"Two words. Cat Baker. She caught me on her territory, and..." Ethan gave a soft sigh. All he wanted was to just defend himself from that psychopath of a woman.
And then this was where he ended up...
But then again, being here with Marie... He wasn't complaining.
"I'm so sorry, Ethan..." Marie softly spoke as the cotton balls she soaked with antibiotics dabbed softly against his cheek.
"No biggie, Marie... I get to see you, so it's not all bad." He half smiled.. with his other cheek, of course.
"Is that why you get hurt all the time?" She asked and smiled back at him, slightly looking into his brown eyes.
"Well, you don't have to keep me as a patient, you know." Things grew quiet between them. Not because he made things awkward, not because she was uncomfortable.
But his words made Marie ponder about her thoughts and feelings for Ethan...
Surely they were friends, right? That's why she always held a close relationship with him, and that was why she always cared for him whenever he came into the hospital...
She sort of felt the need to... If it wasn't her taking care of him, then it would be the other Doctor... Dr. Fuller... If she could even call that man a doctor.
She didn't want to worry about what sadistic practices that man would use on Ethan, instead, wanted to focus on keeping him safe from that man...
"So, Marie, Uh..." Ethan glanced over at the needle and thread next to him. "You gonna have to use that?" He asked a bit nervously, snapping the blonde doctor out of her confused thoughts.
She gave another soft giggle. "Unfortunately, Ethan..."
"Ah shit..."

One year later...

Hearing the words Marie had died from Edward... He couldn't understand, he couldn't bare that... He stared off as he sat down. The only comfortable place, besides Marie's office... Which was gone now.
"What...?" His voice was soft. Edward's face softened even more. He didn't expect the officer to react like this...
"I'm sorry, Bradley." He replied. Ethan couldn't help but blame Edward. The rage building inside him, the sorrow, the grief. It was all just a whirlpool of emotions.
"No... This can't be... If you had been there, she...!" Ethan looked up into Edward's eyes. Despite only knowing her for a short time, he could see that the detective was also grieving. Maybe not as much as him, but he was, in his own way...
Suddenly, he realized he had no one to blame but himself.
"No, if... if I had just stayed by her side..." He held his head in his hands. He wanted to cry, but... Not in front of Edward. He didn't want to show weakness.
Marie...
"If I was just... there... Marie..." Edward watched as his friend unfolded before him. He reached his hand out and placed it on Ethan's shoulder.
"There wasn't anything we could do. But Bradley... Fuller is a mad man. And he must be stopped." He at least tried to console his grieving friend.
"Fuller...? Wh...?" As Ethan struggled to word his sentences, Edward still knew what Ethan wanted to know.
"He killed Marie."
And that seemed to make all those emotions swirling inside of Ethan stop, every one of them turning into a mixture of guilt and anger, as it all flushed down towards his thick gut.
"Fuller...?" Ethan realized there... It wasn't Marie's fault, or Edward's. It wasn't anyone's fault, not even his own.
And even he had a hard time believing that...
The real man who should be blamed is doctor Fuller himself. The man who killed Marie...
He knew Marie wouldn't want him to blame himself, or to grieve her for too long.
"I should've known... We'll... We'll lock him up- no... Kill the bastard, for what he did to her!" Edward watching the morals slowly leave Ethan's head, he knew he had to snap him back to his original self before things got too far. He then placed both hands on the officer's shoulders. He shared many of the same feelings as Ethan, but...
None were as intense as his.
"Bradley... Stay with me. We have to keep a clear and focused mind. We can grieve for Marie later." He told the officer. That ddint seeem to comfort him at all.
"We can get revenge later. How does that sound?"
Now Edward was speaking his language... He had to calm down. But at the same time... He didn't want to stop grieving for Marie.
It was a hard decision, but he thought about what she might've wanted.
She wanted to solve this case. She wanted to bring justice. That was all her sweet soul ever wanted...
And Ethan knew he had to fulfill that request... Looking up at Edward, he nodded.
"O... Okay... Yeah... We'll get the bastard somehow, Pierce." He said, his voice rough and angered. He stood up with a new goal, and a new sense of determination. Edward's hands slid off Ethan's shoulders, and he nodded towards his friend, as if it was a promise that they would go after Fuller as soon as humanly possible.
