Hayden's POV
I was in so much pain. Physicaly and emotionally. But I found the physical pain less painful quite enjoyed it sometimes. Wanna know why?
Because it keeps the pain inside away...
After the beach party, before Adam had brought me home, he beat me till I was black and blue because he thought I was 'socializing too much' with this one boy I met. But we had only been talking about animals because he seemed to love animals a lot and asked me what type of animals I liked. It was a pointless conversation anyway.
I winced as I lifted a long black-sleeved shirt with smiley faces popping up all over it over my head and buttoned up my white skinny jeans. I looked in the mirror and found that Adam had 'accidently' busted my lip. I shuddered and tried to fix my wild bed-hair when a soft knock came to the bathroom door. I quickly grabbed a towel and tried to hide my already-swollen lip by pretending I was drying my face when Jade looked up at me through her little eyes.
"Momma says to hurry up or you're gonna be late for school." She grinned widely.
I rolled my eye, "Tell her I'll be there in a sec." But it came out a little muffled because of the towel. Still, Jade heard me and shut the door to run downstairs.
I put the towel down and face the mirror again to quickly comb my hair out, leaving it down, and applying black eyeliner and blush. Some people always mistook me for being an emo because of how depressed I looked and the choice of clothing I wore. But that wasn't the case. Everything I did was because of Adam. Like I said before: He changed everything...
I let out a deep sigh before heading downstairs to grab a piece of toast out of the toaster and grab my backpack. I was about to head outside when my dad's voice stopped me, "Hayden...can we talk to you for a second?" I sighed and turned around to face my parents.
"Sure...I guess..." I muttered quietly before sitting in front of them while munching on my toast quietly.
Mom and dad looked at each other for a moment and I saw something pass between them secretly. I swallowed the last piece of my toast and stared at them quizzically, "Are you guys getting a divorce?" I asked bluntly.
Mom's eyes widened and dad looked shocked, "No! Of course not! What would make you think that?"
I shrugged, "Just a guess."
Mom sighed and took my hands in hers. I raised an eyebrow. This wasn't good. Usually when mom and dad had me sit down to 'talk' and mom took my hands in hers, it usually spelt out bad news. I bit my lip, "Something wrong?"
Mom shook her head and looked at dad, urging him or something. Dad took a deep breath and stared into my eyes deeply, "Honey, we love you very much. You know that, right?" I nodded and he continued, "Well...promise us you won't freak out, alright?"
I shrugged, "Sure." Dad took a deep breath, "Hayden, me and your mother have arranged a marriage for you. You're going to leave next Saturday." I swear, it felt like someone had punched me in the gut because I. Could. Not. Breathe.
I finally took in a breath of air and felt my anger rise but I controlled my temper. As genuinely as I could, I smiled but it was forced, "Why?"
Tears glistened in mom's eyes as she tried her best not to cry, "Honey, it's for the best." I then felt myself explode. For the best?! Ha!
I jumped up and snatched my hand away from hers, "For the best!! For the fucking best!? How could you?! I'm only 16!! Why did you?!" tears flowed freely down my cheeks but I didn't bother wiping them away. Dad stood up, as well as mom, and pleaded with me, "Sweetie, please? Hear us out."
I bit my lip furiously, "Fine." I spat and sat down again. Dad let out a sigh, "Hun, we've noticed that you've been a little...down lately and this boy your going to marry--" "--he's a very sweet young man." Mom finished for him.
I rolled my eyes, "What's his name?" Dad nodded slowly, "Damien White. He's a year older than you but he's very mature. Even though we like Adam, we thought you might want to take a break from him and be with someone else." I nearly jumped out of my seat in joy after I heard this. Well, the part about taking a break from Adam. THAT I needed.
I grinned and that seemed to shock my parents, "Fine. As long as I'm away from Adam. He's too clingy anyway." I muttered the last part and mom sighed, "We really do love you, Hayden. But it's for the best. We're very good friends with Damien's parents. He's a handsome young man. So polite." She said cheerily to my father who nodded in agreement.
"You'll love him, Hayden. He's a very nice young man and he's gentle with girls. He's a softy, you could say." Dad chuckled and I swallowed, "You've met him? When?"
Mom smiled, "A couple days ago when you went out with Adam after school." I nodded and looked over at the clock before jumping up, "Gotta get to school!" I was about to head out when dad called after me, "Oh! And Hayden, I don't think you've noticed him before but Damien's gone to your school for a while. If you see him, tell him we said hi. You won't miss him!"
I nodded and slipped on my coat, "Sure thing!" But as I headed out, I smirked to myself as I walked to school, "But no promises."
Though I still couldn't believe I was going to get married.
At least I could be away from Adam. That I could manage.
Gee, everday came with a surpise, didn't it?
