Dangers beyond Arkadia's walls were better than they had ever been, or at least once were in the older timeline. As Octavia and Clarke trekked after the search party Bellamy had gone out with, Clarke couldn't help but think about what Raven said. If things were truly this different in this timeline and they had jumped timelines again and again, that meant some catastrophic event just kept happening and they couldn't stop it. Truthfully, Clarke had no idea what it could be. Some part of her was actually beginning to believe they'd gotten their second chance. The fact that the anomaly stones could go back through time was something unprecedented and miraculous. It meant that this was their true opportunity to do better, and even though killing Cadogan and his most loyal followers wasn't exactly doing better it saved everyone and it saved Bellamy.

A jaded sense of captivation began overwhelming her thoughts. Maybe there was no doing better. Maybe Jasper was right in the timeline she'd come from where he said that the cycle couldn't be broken.

Lost in those gloomy thoughts Clarke didn't watch her footing and stepped right onto a twig. The branch snapped and then something rose, tightening around her ankle as she was hoisted into the sky. Dirt and fern leaves sprinkled down onto her as the world flipped upside down. The forest canopy above was now the ground below and vice versa.

Two men emerged from the shadows of the forest, stepping onto the path and examining the two girls.

"Octavia!" Clarke pointed and Octavia spun, drawing her knife from her waist pocket and threw it.

The blade embedded in one of the mens chest. He fell to his knees and then hit the ground. Octavia drew her sword from its sheath and charged the other man. The two of them engaged in a deadly dance of swordsmanship. Octavia's skills in sword to sword combat were impressive but a third man emerged from the brush and brambles of the woods. He wore a fur lined hood that hid his face. He stepped onto the path, stalking towards Octavia. Clarke scrambled for her pistol but it had been knocked from its holster when she was pulled above the earthy floor.

"Octavia!" Clarke shouted again. "Behind you!"

Fortunately, Octavia ducked and then spun, swiping her sword across the third man's thigh. He hissed out an annoyed huff as he bounced back on his heels. The three of them battled it out, clanking weapons on weapons before Octavia managed to cut the other man down. The third man however, had skill. His body dropped to the ground and he slid his legs as they knocked against the back of Octavia's knees. It rocked her on her ass as she hit the ground with a hard thud. She managed to sit herself up but before she could lash out or even go on the offensive the man kicked her in the face and she was down.

The man in the fur lined hood carefully stalked towards Clarke. He took her wrists in his hands and tied them behind her back. Clarke watched him, searched his face and was shocked when she realized who it was.

"Roan.."

He stopped, stared at her blankly. "You know of me?"

"We're friends.." Clarke said and then corrected herself. "I mean I think we could be good friends."

He snorted. "Something tells me the Mighty Wanheda isn't friends with anyone.."

"Roan.." Clarke began and then paused to exhale. "I don't know what you're doing here but trust me, I can help you we can-"

"You'll find out soon enough." He slit the rope that trailed into the trees and Clarke hit the ground with a hard thud.

Her head smacked against something hard on the ground and her vision faded...
