I appear in front of Ridge Forest in front of the entrance. I start moving really fast. I go on the trail me and Martin walked on. Then I go off it and start weaving in and out to miss hitting the trees. I suddenly stop in front of hole with a bush and branch next to it. I feel invisible forces pulling me down the hole. I try to resist them, but I get sucked in anyway. I fall down head first. A scream builds up in my throat as I fall toward the dark ground, but then I remember Martin is sitting there so I close my mouth abruptly. Only a small scream escapes my lips. I feel my hands gripping my carpet floor. God. Poor Martin. He has to witness all this. As it looks like I'm finally going to hit the ground, I turn right side up and land softly on my feet. Then I see the tunnel Martin was talking about. There is a light shining above me, but obviously Martin was down here in pitch black darkness. I know all there is behind me is a wall of dirt, but I hear a mysterious voice behind me.
"Maddie. You must keep exploring with Martin. Trust him. He means no harm to you. You must understand what he tells you. Now go."
I feel myself pulling out of the vision. Why are they getting more intense? I didn't usually crumple to the floor. I see a light. Then as everything fades back to normal, I see I am lying on my side on the floor. I take a deep breath and pull myself off the floor. I look at Martin. He's staring at me wide-eyed. I really don't know what to say to him.
"Uh.... Martin, I can explain."
"I uh.. I uh... I mean..." He stuttered.
"It's okay. I know you're freaked out by what you saw, but you need to promise you can't tell anyone."
"Sure." He squeaked out.
Then he seemed to regain himself.
"I didn't want to tell you this at first, but now I know that you are similar to me."
"I get that you don't want to hang out with me anymore......... wait what?"
"I said, 'Now I know that you are similar to me.'"
"How?"
"I have exceptional abilities. Just like you do." He replied casually.
"I hate it Martin how you act so casual about some things. What can you do?"
"I'm telepathic."
"Oh does that mean you can sense what I'm thinking?"
I tried to cover up everything about him in my mind before he could sense it.
"It doesn't work on you probably because you also have mental abilities."
"Oh good."
I sighed. Good.
"Hey, I think we should go check out that hole you fell in."
"Yeah. When we go down there I'll make sure to bring a ladder or rope."
"Great idea. So, do you think you should be heading home now?"
"Yeah, I guess."
"Ok then. Come on."
He stands up and rolls down his sleeve so it covers the sprain. I stand up and trot down the stairs and open the door for him.
"Hey, Maddie?"
"Yeah?"
"Can you give me your phone number. You know, so I can call you when I want to check out that hole and all."
"Sure."
I turn and get a piece of paper and write my number on it. Wow. A boy is actually asking for my phone number! I try not to let my excited mood show up on my face. Darn. I smile escapes and he sees it. He gives me a smirk in return. I hand him the piece of paper.
"Thanks."
"Don't mention it. Call me?"
That earns me another one of his cute smirks. I giggle a little bit. His eyes shine at me for a minute. I stand there, mesmerized by his eyes. He smiles as though he's won, then he turns and go's, a mischievous glint in his eye. I smile and close the door. I walk up the stairs to my room again. When I get inside I lay down on my bed thinking a million questions. Mostly, there all about Martin. I wonder what's the deal with 'us'. God, I sound like some girl from a romance relationship. I can't wait to see what tomorrow has in store for me, or should I say 'us'.
