"PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE", Kasama whispered to himself, sitting in the driver's seat of his car, his fingers nervously scrolling through his email. He had applied for a job at a nearby Starbucks, a desperate move in his search for employment. At this point, he would take any job that could help lift him out of his current situation.

After a few moments of searching, he finally found the email from the company and clicked on it.

A heavy frown spread across his face as he read the words on the screen. "We regret to inform you that your application has not been successful."

"Fuck," he muttered, feeling the weight of frustration settle in his chest. This was at least the fourth place he'd applied to, and each rejection stung more than the last.

Just as he was about to shut off his phone, a notification from Horace flashed across the screen.

Irritated, Kasama switched off his phone and glanced down at his outfit to ensure it was suitable for a social gathering. He wore a white shirt and black jeans, but the Nike slides he had on felt too casual for his liking. After a quick change into his white Air Forces, he shrugged off his doubts, convinced he looked fine enough, and pulled off toward Horace's house.

SAME DAY
7:12 PM

Kasama leaned against the kitchen counter, boredom washing over him as he watched Horace blow smoke out of his nose while rambling on about some random encounter.

"Mane, I swear, that girl was built like a finger wave on my mama" Horace laughed, his face contorting with amusement. It didn't take long before his laughter erupted, and Kasama couldn't help but crack a smile.

"Fucking goof" Kasama chuckled, rolling his eyes at his friend's antics. Just then, the doorbell rang for what felt like the hundredth time that night.

"I'ma be right back," Horace cackled, heading toward the entrance of his home.

Moments later, as Kasama finished the last drop of water from his bottle, he turned his attention back to Horace as he entered the room with a guest.

Kasama's heart skipped a beat when he locked eyes with a familiar face.
