POV from one of the defectives:It was a long weekend or month? I can't quite tell now, we have been dealing with Ezekiel quite the time now. Now that he's somewhat exposed to the media he tries to cover his tracks, he's trying to cover himself up. He's currently hiding somewhere.
After I woke up in the morning I made myself ready, ate my breakfast and gave my wife a goodbye hug and kiss, then I went to work.
After some good minutes I finally arrived at my work.
"Finally I'm here...well let's see what's awaiting me and my pals"
"The moment I stepped into the precinct, the atmosphere seemed charged with tension. Whispers and hushed conversations circulated among my colleagues. It was evident that the recent murders had stirred up quite a commotion.
I made my way to the conference room, where our team had already assembled. The whiteboard at the front of the room was filled with intricate details and pieces of evidence related to the three murders. Photos of the crime scenes, witness statements, and other pertinent information were meticulously arranged.
As I settled into my seat, I glanced around the room. Detectives Miller and Harris were deep in discussion, poring over some files, while Captain Shaw appeared to be deep in thought, studying the evidence boards intently.
"Morning, everyone," I greeted my colleagues, receiving nods and murmurs in response. Captain Shaw raised his head, his eyes locking with mine. There was a steely determination in his gaze that signaled the gravity of the situation.
"We've got a lot to cover today," Captain Shaw began, his voice low and commanding. "Three murders in two days. The pattern is clear, and we need to find the culprit before another innocent life is taken."
"The pattern are clear? What exactly are they Captain?" I said to Captain Shaw
Captain Shaw looked at me with a mixture of weariness and resolve in his eyes. "Each of the victims was killed in their own homes, stabbed repeatedly with the same kind of knife. There's no sign of forced entry, which means the murderer had some level of familiarity with the victims or their routines. And the brutality of the killings suggests a level of personal vendetta, rather than a random act of violence."
He gestured towards the evidence boards, where the crime scene photos were stark reminders of the brutality that had occurred. "We've got a team combing through every lead we have. We need to catch this guy before he strikes again."
I nodded, my mind already racing with possible angles and leads that we could pursue. "Understood, sir. We'll do everything in our power to bring this individual to justice." With a determined nod, I turned my attention back to the evidence, ready to delve into the case with renewed focus and determination.
"Miller,Harris you got something?" I asked Miller and Harris as I went to take the evidence photos "Can I Captain?" I asked him to be sure.
Captain Shaw glanced over, giving a slight nod. "Go ahead, but be careful with the evidence. We need to preserve every detail we can." His voice held a note of caution, underscoring the gravity of the situation.
Miller looked up, his expression tired but determined. "We've got a potential witness who claims to have seen a figure lurking around one of the crime scenes. They mentioned a suspicious person in a dark hooded jacket, but the description's pretty vague. It's all we've got for now, but we're working on it."
Harris chimed in, his gaze fixed on the evidence board. "There's also some trace evidence we're analyzing. Fibers, possible DNA samples. We're hoping it might lead us to the perpetrator, but it's going to take time."
I nodded, studying the evidence photos intently. "Keep me updated. Let's see if we can find any connections between the victims. There has to be something linking them together, some kind of common thread we're missing."
"There must be more evidence" I looked at the photograph's "How about footprints? something on those?"
Miller raised his head slightly, scanning through his notes. "We did find some footprints near one of the crime scenes. They seem to be size 10 sneakers, muddy tread, and the pattern matches some found at the other sites. It's not much, but it might give us a lead."
Harris added, "We're cross-referencing the prints with any existing criminal databases, but so far, we haven't hit upon a match. Could be someone new or someone we've missed so far."
Captain Shaw chimed in, "We're also looking at possible connections between the victims. Any shared affiliations, workplaces, or even personal ties might give us a clue about the motive."
I continued examining the photos, my mind racing with the possibilities. "Let's also get some more background information on the victims. If there's a link we're missing, it might be right there in their pasts."
"Who was the first victim? Well if there's a first one" I asked
Captain Shaw consulted his notes, furrowing his brow in concentration. "The first victim was a local librarian, Emily Hunt. Found in her own home, multiple stab wounds, pretty brutal scene."
Miller interjected, "We also have reports of a break-in at the library a few days prior. The night watchman reported some strange noises, but by the time he investigated, the intruder was gone. We're thinking it might be related."
Harris nodded in agreement. "Yeah, there were signs of forced entry, but nothing seemed to be missing. We couldn't find a clear motive for the break-in at the time, but given the subsequent murder of the librarian, it's definitely worth looking into further."
"...Wait, Emily Hunt?...But..wait I'm confused right now, I thought she was already dead? Her mother Cornelia Hunt has been accused of murdering her.." I asked confused
Captain Shaw glanced at me, his expression grim. "That's correct, her mother was accused, but the case was never truly solved. The evidence was circumstantial at best. Cornelia was emotionally devastated and couldn't provide a solid alibi for the night of the murder. However, new evidence might just change the entire complexion of the case. We need to dig deeper."
I nodded, absorbing the gravity of the situation. "We'll have to revisit that case, see if there's any connection. Maybe we can finally bring some closure to Cornelia Hunt."
*Little did we knew that someone already did that but at the current time of the investigation how should've we known that, so we revisited the case*
The office buzzed with activity as we revisited the Emily Hunt case. My desk was stacked with old case files, photographs, and witness testimonies. The gloomy details of the past resurfaced as we looked for any discrepancies or overlooked evidence.
My partner, Detective Miller, was hunched over the desk, sorting through old newspaper clippings. "You know, it's strange," he mumbled. "This case just never sat right with me. A mother killing her own child, especially with the lack of concrete evidence. Maybe there's more to it."
Harris chimed in, "It's possible. We should re-interview Cornelia Hunt and see if she has any new information. People can be driven to confess or reveal secrets under different circumstances."
Captain Shaw appeared in the doorway, watching us sift through the past. "This case is our top priority right now. Whatever we find could be the key to unlocking this whole nightmare. Let's get to work, team."
