Not Your Fault

Vegas POV.

I heard shuffling around me, soft footsteps across the room. It was only few hours ago that I awoke to the most beautiful sight that I thought I'd never get to see again.

Pete.

Sitting at the edge of the bed staring at my almost lifeless body that had been torn to shreds by the guard of the Major family house. I can't blame them though, my father had wreaked havoc on not only my dear cousin but to every person he ever laid eyes upon, me included.

As I stirred awake for the second time, I opened my eyes to look around the room, Pete was standing in the corner of the room whispering into his phone. He turned around and stared at me for a second until he realized I was staring back. He smiled slowly as he made his way over to me. I looked around the room once more noticing for once, we were alone, just him and me.

As Pete sat next to me on my hospital bed he stroked his hand from the side of my head down to my cheek, leaving it there for a moment before sliding it further down my neck and to my chest. He paused and looked at me and said, "good morning love, how are you feeling? Still sore? Do you need anything? Pain meds? The doctor?"

I laughed softly closing my eyes, though it still pained me to do so, I took a deep breath before looking at Pete and speaking out with a hoarse voice, "baby, I am fine, please."  He looked at me with worry written all over his face. Before I could even let him speak, I raised my hand to the back of his neck and pulled him onto my chest.

I could feel his body instantly relax, I heard his breath slow down as he wrapped his tiny arms around my waist gently, not squeezing me too hard. "Can you lay with me love? That is all I need; I just want you as close as I can have you right now." I whispered softly into his hair. Pete raised his head placing a soft kiss on my chin. "You have me, all of me, right here. But I don't want to hurt you anymore than I already have." Pete said looking at all of the bandages scattered on my chest and the bruises on my face.

As Pete tried to push himself off of me, I held on tight, as if my life depended on it, because it does. I need Pete more than he could ever believe right now. I could care less about the bruises and the cuts, the gunshot wounds and the massive headache I have had since I woke up. I just need his presence, his scent, it calms my nerves and my emotions, he makes me feel human.

Pete POV.

I haven't left Vegas's side since he woke up. It scares me to think about how I almost lost him. One second, we were poolside of the Major family house, me begging him to turn around a look at me. The next he stared into my eyes while one of the other bodyguards shot him right in the chest.

Every moment from then on, I've barely slept, I have only left this room for a matter of seconds to use the restroom. I can't allow myself to take my eyes off him.

"Please, Vegas, please forgive me for all these cuts and bruises. I'm sorry, I am so sorry." I spoke while holding back tears that have been threatening to fall since the moment Vegas looked at me. "Baby, none of this is your fault, you were following orders, you did what you had to do." Vegas said while caressing my cheek. "You don't have to be sorry, there is no reason for you to apologize, you saved me, I know you did."

I looked at Vegas wide eyed and questioned what he meant by that, "what are you saying Vegas? how did I save you? you almost died because of me."

Vegas looked at me and smiled sweetly, "you know, with all these bandages, and from the looks of where the bullet both entered and left my body, I am most positive I've got your wonderful universal blood just streaming through my veins right about now." I lifted my head to look him straight in the face, "how, h-how did you know that?" He looked at me for a split second before using his large hand to pull me back down on to him.

"I am not stupid Pete, I mean, I know I'm not that smart either, and I'm hot headed, and I'm stubborn, but I am not stupid..." he strokes my hair before continuing, "I also am not blind, I can see the bandage on your wrist, no matter how hard you tried to conceal it, I see it." I tried to push myself up once again, but he held me down tightly. I spoke softly, slightly embarrassed, "I never said you were stupid, and I didn't try to hide it from you, I just felt like it wasn't something that needed to be brought up."

Vegas lifted my chin with his free hand that was wrapped around my torso, placing a delicate kiss on my lips. "You can't honestly sit here and apologize for almost getting me killed, which again, wasn't even your fault. Only to conveniently glaze over the fact you saved my life." He smirked at me only to kiss me again, this time harder.
