The First Day of School

One year after their 4th birthday and the Measuring Day incident, It is now another peaceful morning at the dam, but it's an important day for Lily and Petunia as well. Why? Because it's their first day of actual school. Lily and Petunia have both been awaiting this day for so long, but now it's finally here. The girls are both sleeping peacefully in their bedroom when just then, Norbert then heads into their room and wakes them up.

"Good morning girls, rise and shine." Norbert says softly to wake his daughters up.
Then, Lily and Petunia flutter open their eyes and rub them while yawning.
"Good morning, daddy..." Lily and Petunia say in unison.
"How did you girls sleep?"
"We slept well..." Lily smiles at her father, knowing that he would always hope for the best sleep for the girls.
"Good...Today's the first day of school. Big day today, ready to learn and get some knowledge." Norbert reminds his daughters in an enthusiastic tone.
"Oh yeah... "
"Me and mommy will be making breakfast while you girls get ready."
"Okay..." Lily and Petunia say in unison again.
Norbert then leaves the room and Lily and Petunia then head out of bed, nervous to start their first day of school. Fades to a few minutes later. Treeflower is finishing cooking breakfast for the family while Norbert eats his breakfast.
"Mmmm. Breakfast is delicious as usual!" Norbert compliments Treeflower as he finishes up eating.
"Thanks, Norby!" Treeflower smiles while hugging her husband.
Just then, Lily and Petunia walk into the kitchen where they sit at the table and have their breakfast.
"Are you girls excited for your first day of school today?" Norbert asks his daughters while smiling.
"Actually we're kinda nervous..." Lily says nervously.
"I don't know how today's gonna go...What if something goes bad?" Petunia adds in.
"Don't worry, girls. I know you're both feeling nervous but all of your friends will be there for you. The point is don't worry because everything will be alright." Norbert reassures his daughters to try to make them feel better.
"Thanks daddy.." Lily and Petunia smile while hugging their father.
"No problem...I'm gonna start the car now." Norbert tells them.

Norbert then heads out to start the car while Lily and Petunia are getting ready for their first day of school. They are a bit nervous but know that they have to go. Norbert was outside starting his car to drive them to school and walked back inside. Lily and Petunia walk into the living room with their backpacks on.
"C'mon girls, let's go." Norbert tells his daughters while smiling.
Lily and Petunia then follow their parents in their car as they drive to the school building. Lily and Petunia then exit the car and head to Norbert's car window.
"Bye Mom! Bye Dad!"
Lily and Petunia give their parents a kiss on the cheek before running to the school building.
"Bye, girls! We love you!" Norbert farewells his daughters,giving his daughters a kiss on the forehead.
"See ya girls! Love you lots!" Treeflower adds.
Norbert and Treeflower then drive off as the girls enter the building.
Lily and Petunia are walking through the hallway when suddenly, Lily sees someone that catches her attention. She notices Dustin, a dark orange young male beaver with a light brown tail, green nose, light brown hair, and a black and gray beanie on. Lily begins to feel something that she never felt before, love.
"Lily? Hellooo?"
Petunia waves her hand in her sister's face, but she's still entranced by the sight of him. Lily nervously walks over to the boy beaver while blushing.
Just then, Dustin looks over and notices a very cute girl standing next to him.
He decides to make the first move.
"Hi."
Lily blushes nervously while looking into his eyes. The windows to his ever so caring soul.
"H-Hi.."
"My name's Dustin.."
Dustin winks at her.
Lily gulps while still blushing nervously as he winks at her.
"H-Hi.."
Dustin snickers at this, thinking that even though he's only known her for about five seconds at this point, that she's the cutest beaver he's ever met.
"What's your name?"
"M-my name.. Uh... My name is.. L-Lily" she stutters nervously while moving her feet around a bit.
"Hey...I notice you're a bit nervous...Is something wrong?"
"Nervous...uh who's nervous?...I'm not nervous..." She laughs nervously.
"Maybe this will calm you down a bit..."
Dustin then holds her hand, thus making Lily blush incredibly hard for him.
"Gahhhhh... M-much better..."
"You know...you actually look really pretty...I like your hair."
"You-you really think so?..." She looks at the different direction while still having contact with him, blushing, moving her hair.
"I know so..."
Dustin then notices Petunia and Lily's friends giving her thumbs up while smiling.
"Hey, who's your friends? They look like some nice friends." Dustin says while smiling.
"Oh, um, this is my sister Petunia."
"Hi, there! Nice to meet you, Dustin!" Petunia greeted
"Nice to meet you too, Petunia." He greets while shaking her paw.
"And these are my friends. Shaherah, Whimsy, Chandler, Monica, and Sapling."
The rest of their friends all wave hello to Dustin, excluding Sapling since she is an immobile tree stump.
"Hi you guys! Nice to meet you all. You know, I'd love to be friends with all of you."
"Why, you're more than welcome to be in our friend group, Dustin!" Shaherah says cheerfully.
"Yeah, any friend of Lily's is a friend of ours!" Chandler says excitedly.
"That's great!" Dustin cheers.
"So, you wanna eat with me with my sis and my friends during lunch?" Lily asks cutely..
"I'd be happy to" Dustin agreed.
"Great..."
"Well, see you at lunch."
Dustin looks at her lovingly before winking at her once more, making her giggle again. Lily blushes as he walks off as she walks away, sighing contently. As she was daydreaming, Petunia and their friends watched her being all lovey dovey.
"Hey Lily,we just noticed you just got a boyfriend." Petunia remarks.
"He's not my boyfriend...at least not yet he isn't..." Lily insists as she looks around nervously.
"Really? Because you were blushing very hard when he held your hand." Whimsy informs.
"It-it's not a romantic blush! " Lily protests right while blushing.
"Okay, if you say so." Petunia responds.
"But then again...he does have a cute smile.. wonderful hair...and a welcoming voice..." She sighs contently.
"I knew it! He seems like a pretty great guy."
Lily finally breaks under the pressure that she is in.
"Okay I admit it! I do have a crush on him! But,how am I going to tell my parents about this, especially my Dad? He probably wouldn't approve of me falling in love..."
"Lily, you know how Dad is. I'm pretty sure he would be happy for you! He would most likely be proud that you found love!" Petunia consoles.
"I, I don't know.. You know I'm his daddy's girl and since I'm crushing over a boy, he'll go overprotective Dad mode on me and I definitely can't have that. I don't want him to know."
"I don't think Dad's gonna be upset with you, Lily. You know how much he loves you and he will approve of you having a crush."
Lily sighs.
"I hope you're right Petunia..."
Then the bell rang.
"Okay, let's get to class."
"R-right!"
They then all head to class. However, right when they're walking into class, Lily sees a very pleasant surprise.
Dustin sitting in a seat in the middle of the class.
"This isn't school,this is just heaven..." Lily says contently.
And as if things couldn't turn out any better for her, Dustin taps the seat next to him with his paw signaling her to sit next to him. She couldn't help but let out a single excited squeal, as she did not hesitate to sit next to him. Petunia sat next to her.
Then the teacher Miss Fox enters the classroom, ready to introduce herself to the room full of her new students.
"Hello everyone! My name is Miss Fox! " She announces as she writes her name on the whiteboard.
"Hi, Miss Fox!" The students say in unison.
"It's so nice to meet all of you! I'll be your teacher for the year. I can reassure you this will be a great year for all of you!"
As Miss Fox says this, Lily then has a thought bubble of Dustin winking at her again and she blushes.
"Yeah...It already is a great year for me..."
"Why don't we start off by introducing ourselves."
She looks at Lily and decides to have her introduce herself first.
"Why don't you start first, young lady."
"Oh hi, everyone! My name is Lily Beaver!"
"Hi, Lily!" All of the classmates greet her in unison.
"Nice to meet you, Lily!" Miss Fox greets her.
A few minutes go by as everyone continues greeting themselves to Miss Fox just like Lily did. Everyone tells her their name, their likes and dislikes, etc.
It is now moments later, when everyone is having some free time after introducing themselves to the teacher, and Lily is drawing a photo of her and Dustin holding hands with a heart drawn over them. The teacher walks up to her.
"Hey, Lily? What are you drawing?" Miss Fox asks Lily.
Lily becomes embarrassed and tries to cover the drawing up.
"Oh,uh,n-nothing!"
"C'mon...let me see. You don't have to be nervous."
Lily slowly uncovers the drawing and shows it to the teacher, who looks at it for a second.
"Awwwww! Who's this nice young man in the drawing Lily?"
"M-my friend...D-Dustin.." Lily tells her teacher while blushing,while looking at him sitting in his seat playing some video games.
"How sweet! I think you two would be a very cute couple."
"Y-you really think so...?"
"I do...If you love Dustin that much then you can love him however much you want." Miss Fox advises Lily while smiling.
"Thanks Miss Fox."
"No problem Lily."
Then, the lunch bell rings and all the students head out.
"Bye everyone! Hope you have a good lunch!"
Lily and Petunia head out of the classroom for lunch, as do all the other students. Soon after Lily heads out of the door, Dustin catches up to her.
"Hey, Lily!"
"Oh h-hey, Dustin.."
"Do you mind if I walk with you and your sister and friends to lunch?"
"Oh yes I would love for you to do that, Dustin...P-please do..."
Dustin holds Lily's small tender paw in his loving grasp.
"Great! Let's go, shall we."
Lily giggles as the two head off, along with all their friends.
Later on, Dustin and Lily then get their lunch and sit down at the table where Petunia and their friends will all sit. They're all still in line getting their lunches so now Lily and Petunia have a brief period of time to spend alone together.
"Hey...so do you like watching sunsets? " Dustin asks her.
"I love watching sunsets! They are so pretty to look at!"
"Exactly...they always remind me of bowls of fruit...What do they make you think of?"
Lily pauses for a moment before giving him her answer.
"Uuuuh, they remind me of ummmm...They-They remind me of L-Love..." She explains while blushing.
"Do they?"
"Yeah..."
"That sounds nice." He smiles.
Dustin puts his arm around Lily, who doesn't mind at all and rather embraces it.
"You know...I think me and you should look at the sunset one day."
Lily blushes while looking at him and she moves a little bit away, a little sad. Dustin notices this.
"Is something wrong, Lily?"
"Um...You're a great guy Dustin but um...Do you think my Dad will ever approve of our crushes on each other?...But I totally don't have a crush on you or anything..." She laughs nervously and looks down and sighs sadly.
Well...I don't know your dad but from what I heard from you and your sister talking earlier I think he sounds like a great guy and would definitely approve of us...And you don't have to be nervous or sad around me...I'll do anything to make you feel better."
"You...you would?"
"I will."
Lily blushes while looking into his knowing eyes. Dustin then puts his arm back around her body to comfort her. Lily blushes hard as he puts his arm around her and she sighs contently.
Just then, Petunia and all their friends sit down over where they're sitting.
"Hey, guys!" Petunia greets them.
"Hey, sis!"
"Are you guys having a good time?"
Lily looks at Dustin and she blushes while giggling nervously at him.
"Yes...very..."
"So what were you two talking about?" Whimsy asks them.
"Uh, w-we were talking about our interests!"
"Nice! I'm sure you two have a lot in common." Monica noticed.
"Y-yeah, we do."
Then everyone starts eating their lunch and talking. As they're eating their food and talking, they all seem as if they're having a very good time together. Especially Lily and Dustin.
However, their fun would not last long.
Because just then, a large rabbit kid named Bushel (the son of Norbert and Daggett's friend Big Rabbit), comes up to them. He is a bully, and it looks like Lily is his next target.
"Well well well,look what we have here. A couple of wimpy beavers!" Bushel insults them.
Lily and Petunia start quivering at the sight of him.
"You're both a bunch of scaredy beavers! Nobody cares for you!"
As Bushel grabs both Lily and Petunia from their chest, Dustin decides to intervene.
"You better get out of here! They did nothing wrong so why don't you just leave!"
"Or what?"
"Or else I will report you for bullying and harassment."
"You're not gonna do anything. You're just another wimpy beaver just like those two."
However, the Moose Principal was actually standing right behind Bushel the whole time glaring down at him. Bushel is caught red handed, and he needs to cover himself up somehow.
"Um, uh, you got it all wrong! I-I never want to hurt anyone! I swear!"
"Yeah, right. You're coming with me,young man." The Principal tells him as he escorts Bushel away from the group.
Dustin watches as the bully gets taken away as he grins from his karma. He then turns his direction back over to Lily and Petunia.
"Are you two okay?" Dustin asks them.
"Y-yes...That was really nice of you, Dustin...Thank you..." Lily says to Dustin,while pulling the two up.
"You're welcome, Lily."
Dustin then hugs Lily to comfort her after what just happened, which makes Lily relaxed and also starts blushing again. They then go back to eating their lunch as they try to forget about what just happened.
A few hours later, school has ended and the kids are all on the bus. Lily, Petunia, and Dustin notice there's an empty seat for the three of them to sit together.
"Let's sit there!" Lily says
"That sounds good." Dustin agrees.
Dustin sits right next to the window and Lily sits right next to him. Petunia sits right next to Lily and in the aisle seat.
It is now a few minutes later as Lily and Petunia are getting closer and closer to home. The bus then stops at Lily and Petunia's dam and Dustin is still there. Petunia runs off the bus happily and Lily looks at Dustin a little sad again.
"Will I ever see you again?"
"Of course you will. We'll always have school together.
"Come on Lily!" Petunia shouted from afar,waving to her sister.
"I-I gotta go. See you tomorrow?" Lily asked.
"Of course. See you tomorrow, Lily."
Lily blushes as she waves to him goodbye and walks off the bus.
Meanwhile, Norbert and Treeflower were sitting on the couch together doing their usual thing. Lily walks to the door first and she spins all giddy and girly not noticing her parents who are sitting on the couch.
"Hi, Lily! I notice you're looking quite happy today? How was your day, sweetie?" Norbert asks his daughter.
Lily continues to be in her own little world as she happily twirls around to her room. Petunia follows behind her.
"Lily met a cute boy today at school. "
"Oh really? What's his name?"
"Dustin."
"Oh that's wonderful!" Norbert cheers.
"Oh my! Lily's got her first crush! I'm so happy for her!" Treeflower embraces.
"And Lily's afraid that you might be overprotective of their crush on each other."
"Overprotective?! Why would I be? She found love and she's clearly very happy! I'll have to ask her what Dustin's like later on."
Moments later, Lily was still in her room and she was doodling Dustin with hearts around him in her notebook and it's filled with hearts and she sighed contently.
Norbert knocks on her door.
"Hey, Lily!"
Lily gasps as she hears her father speaking and hides the notebook under her pillow.
"Uuuuuuh, come in Dad!"
Norbert then enters her room and sits right next to her on her bed.
"How was your first day?"
"Oh It was great! I got to hang out with all my friends and I also have a great teacher too!"
"That's good. Did you meet anyone new today?" Norbert smiles knowingly.
Lily looked away blushing and looked at her father again.
"Uuuuuh nope! No one new! Hehe..."
"C'mon, you can tell daddy. I won't be mad."
"Uh...I...um..."
"You can say it."
"I...I MET A BEAVER BOY AND I REALLY LIKE HIM AND HE REALLY LIKES ME!" She breathes in and out trying to catch her breath.
"Sweetie,that's great news! I'm so happy for you!"
"Wait,really?"
"Of course I am! What is he like?"
Lily blushes while she explains to her father what her new crush is like.
"Well, he has a really welcoming and charming voice. He likes the things that I'm into. He's very sweet. He also has wonderful smooth hair and...he also...winks at me...When I saw him I was...In love... And he also protected me and Petunia from bullies."
"Wait a minute, BULLIES?!"
"Well this kid named Bushel bullied me and Petunia and called us names and pushed us, but then Dustin came and saved us."
"Bushel? Is he Big Rabbit's kid?" asked Norbert.
"Yeah."
"I'm so sorry kiddo. I'll have a talk with Bushel's parents about it later on today. In the meantime I'm really glad Dustin is nice enough to protect you from bullies."
"Yeah...I thought you wouldn't approve of me being in love with a boy knowing how overprotective you can be with me and Petunia at times. Is it really...that okay with you?" She looks away with tears in her eyes.
Norbert wipes her tears for her and hugs her.
"You don't have to worry. I absolutely approve of you having a crush on someone. If you love him then by all means you can love him however much you want."
"You,you mean that Dad?"
"I do mean it."
Lily rubs her eyes while sniffling.
"Thanks daddy..."
"No problem, sweetie."
It's the next day and Lily and Petunia get on the school bus, and Lily tries to find Dustin. Dustin notices Lily looking for her. Dustin waves his hand where he's sitting.
"Lily! I'm right here!"
Lily gasps in happiness and she walks over to Dustin and hugs him.
"Dustin!"
Dustin hugs her back.
"Lily! I'm so glad to see you!"
"I-I'm so glad to see you too Dustin!"
"So did you tell your dad about me?"
"Yeah and he's very happy for us!"
"That's great! I hope to meet him one day!"
"Yeah..."
Dustin looks at her blushing and he has a question for her.
"Hey...would you like to watch the sunset with me tonight? If your parents are fine with it."
"Really?! You mean that?"
"Of course I do."
"Yes! But where would we watch the sunset?"
"We could watch it at the grass field that's near the forest."
"That's near my place!"
"That's great! Maybe you could ask your dad if you would watch the sunset with me after school."
"Of course I would, Dustin!"
They then arrive at school where Bushel walks up to Lily, Petunia, and Dustin, now sad.
"What do you want?" Dustin asks irritatedly, still remembering what he did to Lily the day prior.
"Listen...I wanted to apologize for what happened yesterday. I promise I won't do it again." Bushel hangs his head down in shame.
Lily remembers that her dad said he'd talk to his parents and she realized that he finally did and smiles.
"It's okay, Bushel, we forgive you."
"You do?"
                             "Yes we do. Would you like to be our friend?" Petunia offers.
"Of course I would!"
                                                                   "Great! See you at lunch!"
The bell rings as they all head to class.
Hours later, it is after school as all the kids are on the bus once more to go home. Lily and Petunia got back to their place.
"So um, I'll see you at sunset Dustin..."
"See you at sunset, Lily." He winks at her.
Lily blushes as she walks out of the bus and Lily and Petunia walk to the door. The girls then enter the dam while Norb and Treeflower are watching TV again.
"Hi girls! How was your day?" Norbert asks his daughters.
"Great, Dad!" Petunia replies.
"So wonderful..." Lily adds in.
"Did you and your crush have a good day together today?" Treeflower asks Lily.
"Yes we did Mom and uh.. Mom..? Dad?"
"Yes, sweetie?"
"Can Dustin come over later at sunset to spend time with me?"
"Of course he can!" Norbert tells her with no hesitation.
"We'd love to meet him!" Treeflower adds in graciously.
"Oh thanks, mom and dad!" Lily exclaims happily while hugging them.
"You're welcome, Lily."
Hours later, the sun begins to set and Lily waits for him from inside the dam while she sits on the couch.
"I sure do hope he'll be here." Lily says to herself.
Just then, she hears a knock at the door meaning one thing and one thing only. Dustin has finally arrived. Lily gasps happily as she rushed to the door and she opens the door for him.
"H-Hey Dustin!"
"Hey, Lily! Ready to go?"
"Yeah! Oh um Dustin,this is my Mom and Dad ."
Then Norbert and Treeflower arrive at the doorway to greet him.
"Hello, Dustin!" Norbert greets.
"Hi, Dustin!" Treeflower greets.
"Hello, Mr. and Mrs. Beaver! Nice to meet you!"
"Nice to meet you too! Lily has told us so much about you and you seem like a fine young man."
"Why thank you, Mr. Beaver! That's really nice of you!"
"No problem. Now you two have a great time out there!"
Dustin holds his hand out for her and Lily looks at Dustin blushing while giggling. Lily then takes his hand as they head outside for the hill near her dam.
Moments after that, Lily and Dustin watched the sunset together on the grassy hill.
"What a beautiful sunset.." Lily sighed contently.
"It sure is beautiful. Just as beautiful as you." Dustin compliments her.
"Y-you mean that?"
"I'm just being honest with you. You're the most beautiful girl I've ever met...And I've only known you for one day."
"And you're the most wonderful boy I ever met and..I don't know if this is crazy but uh..I really like "like" you..." She blushes nervously as she tells Dustin her feelings for him.
"It's okay. I really like "like" you too." Dustin confesses while blushing himself.
Lily looks Dustin in his loving eyes, while Dustin looks into hers.
"Dustin?"
"Yes, Lily?"
"I...um..."
"What is it?"
Lily quickly kisses Dustin on the cheek.
"I can't believe I just did that..." She gasps.
"It's okay,I actually really liked that."
"You did?"
"Yes, very much so."
Dustin starts blushing hard and kisses her on the cheek right back for a full two seconds. Lily blushes hard at this.
"I hope you like that too..."
"Of course I do Dustin..."
"I'm glad I can make you happy..."
Dustin starts gently playing with her hair. Lily smiles while she looks away a bit and blushes.
"Oh, Dusty..."
"I like spending time with you Lily.."
"Me too Dusty.."
Lily and Dustin noticed that the sky was dark.
"Oh! It's nighttime. We gotta go home." Dustin advises.
"You're right. See you at school tomorrow Dusty!"
She kissed his cheek and ran to her family happily.
"See you tomorrow at school, Lily!" Dustin waves goodbye to his new crush.
Lily then eagerly sprints back home and enters the house much, much, MUCH happier than she already was.
"Hi, sweetie! Did you have a good time with Dustin?" Norbert asks while smiling.
"Oh yes Dad, I'm really in love like how you and Mom are!"
"Awwww that's really nice, Lily!" Treeflower embraces.
"We're all very proud of you for finding such a great young man at such a young age." Norbert embraces as well.
"Thanks Dad! Thanks Mom!"
Lily doesn't hesitate to hop onto the couch next to her father, mother, and her younger sister as they all watch television together.
For the first time in her life, Lily finally knows what true love from another kid her age feels like. And she couldn't be anymore grateful.
