A portal appeared in the middle of the room.
-Hobie. I need help.- a man with a pink robe and a spidersuit walked in, then y/n noticed he was holding a baby girl with red curly hair and green eyes, suddenly he saw y/n -Oh fuck.- he said, covering the little girl's ears as a backpack fell on the floor.
-It's okay, Peter. She's a spider being as well.- he said -y/n, he's Peter. Peter, she's y/n.- Hobie introduced them as the kid leaned toward Hobie with her little hands, opening and closing them, trying to go with him.
-Oh, sorry.- Peter said -Pleasure to meet you.- he smiled as he put the kid to the ground -Mayday don't touch anything, sweetie.- he attempted to scold her, since she had aimed the bass and was heading towards it.
-It's okay, Pete.- Hobie knelt to the ground, so he was the same height as the kid -I salute you, little anarchist.- he smiled, picking her up, making her smile wildly.
Mayday, in y/n's opinion, was really a cute baby, dressed with a pair of shorts and a red shirt with a spiderweb on it.
-Hi there.- y/n said, getting close to them -She's so pretty.- she said, turning to Peter, who in response smiled pleased by the compliment.
-Luckily she took after her mother.- he replied, with a playful smile.
The three of them remained silently as they looked at Mayday, who was trying to take Hobie's earrings in her little and chubby hands.
-To what do I owe the pleasure of the visit?- Hobie asked, suddenly, breaking the silence that had been created.
y/n moved her gaze on Peter, who took a moment to look back at them.
-Why do you think I came here? Can't I just visit a friend?- Peter asked, in a slightly offended tone.
-You literally walked out of a portal saying 'Hobie, I need help'.- he pointed it out, sitting on the sofa with Mayday on his lap.
-Oh, alright then.- Peter said sighing -Tonight it's mine and Mary Jane's anniversary. I booked in her favorite restaurant, but I didn't find a babysitter for tonight.-
-And you came here to ask me?- the anarchist asked, making Mayday touch the strings of the bass.
The little girl looked amazed as the instrument made music, so she touched the strings again, now giggling and looking at her father with a challenging grin on her face that could have been read as 'I'm not going to listen, I'm gonna touch everything I want'.
-Yes, Hobie.- Peter replied -But since you have company, it's okay if you want to refuse. I'd understand, really.- he nudged over to y/n, who immediately blushed.
-If he doesn't want to, I can take care of her.- she said, without thinking twice about it -I know you know me from less than five minutes, but I'd love to babysit her.- y/n gave an enchanted and locked look on the girl who seemed looking at her.
As an answer, Mayday walked away from Hobie and latched onto y/n's leg.
-You wanna stay here with her?- the man with the pink robe asked as the little girl replied with a nod, while her red hair shook with her head.
-You can trust her, Peter.- Hobie stepped in the conversation, sitting on the sofa again -I'll stay here anyway so you have two babysitters instead of one.- he said, shrugging, with a smug grin.
Peter immediately hugged the other Spider-Man in thanks.
-Thanks so much, man. I owe you one.- he said, then when he broke the hug, he looked over at y/n -I owe you one too, y/n. Thank you.-
-Don't mention it, Peter, really.- she replied, smiling dismissing him with a movement of her hand -It will be a pleasure for me.- she replied -She looks like a lovely girl.-
-Don't let her fool you. She can be a real trickster, let me tell you.- Peter said, then he looked at the backpack that was on the ground -And there is some of her stuff.-
-Then go, Pete. You have to get ready.- Hobie made him notice.
-You're right, you're right. I'm gonna go now. Bye, thanks again, guys.- the man with the robe said, opening a portal and disappearing, waving at his kid.
As Hobie and y/n got left with that little girl, they looked at each other as she wobbled around.
-So, Mayday, what do you want to do?- y/n asked, taking the backpack from the ground and placing it on the sofa.
Mayday walked over to her and tried to open the bag and y/n seeing her in difficulty, helped her.
-If I had to guess, I'd say she wants her book.- Hobie said, casually -Usually I read her the animal's book.-
-Uh? You read books? To kids?- she asked, surprised, with a chuckle, not expecting something like this from him.
y/n smiled involuntarily as she remembered a few times when Hobie, in his spidersuit, stopped just to wave or to say a word to the kids that were in the streets and were looking at him in awe.
y/n liked the fact that Hobie had a soft spot for kids.
-Sometimes. But just to the little anarchist here.- the man said, ruffling the girl's red hair.
y/n opened the backpack, picking the book and passing it to Hobie, looking at him with a small nod.
-Here you go, Mister Book reader.- she said, sitting next to him.
Mayday immediately, as she saw that book, she clapped her hands in excitement and climbed on the sofa, sitting in Hobie's lap.
-Seems like I'm reading.- Hobie said, sighing, but underneath, he liked it and would have done it with pleasure -So the dog says woof.- he started reading as he flicked the page -The cat says meow. The mouse says squeak.- he continued reading -Oh, there's my favourite.- he announced, with a grin as he looked over to y/n -The pig says 'you have the right to remain silent'.-
-Hobie, no.- y/n said, as her hand flew to her mouth, trying not to get the laugh out -You can't say these things.-
-Ops, I guess?- he shrugged, with still a smug grin on his lips.
-Come here, Mayday. Don't listen to him.- y/n said, as the kid jumped on her lap -Can I braid your hair, sweetie?- she had the urge of asking, like a superior force was controlling her.
-She loves having her hair combed and styled. Especially pigtails and braids.- Hobie informed her, picking the backpack and taking out a brush and some hair ties -Here they are, I was sure Peter had put them here.- he said, handing the brush over to y/n -He always does.-
As y/n brushed Mayday's hair, Hobie couldn't take his eyes off her.
The way she carefully untied the knots she had in her hair as she kept apologising if she had hurt her, the way the light hit her face making her eyes full of wonder as she interacted with a toddler even more bright, the way her lips were locked in a genuine smile.
Everything about her was enchanting.
-Hobie?- y/n called his name, bringing him back to reality.
-Mh? Sorry, what?- he said, blinking a few times, trying to realise what she could have been saying or asking him.
-I asked if you could pass me the hair ties, please?- she asked, indicating with her gaze to the backpack.
-Oh, yeah, sure. Sorry.- he said, stretching his arm towards the backpack and taking the hair ties.
-Thanks, Hobs.- she smiled as she finished the two half pigtails and half braids -And we're done, Mayday. Wanna go outside to play a little?-
Immediately the toddler's gaze lit up as she heard the word 'play'.
-That's a good idea.- Hobie smiled, in view of the afternoon and evening they would spend together.
Time flew by in no time for all of them, as they passed the whole afternoon among laughs and adventures with slides, swings, or also simply playing hide and seek or catcher.
When, later that night, Peter came back to get his daughter, he was pretty surprised when he found the three sleeping on the couch.
Mayday all cuddled up on y/n's lap, while her head was laying on Hobie's shoulder and his arm was around her shoulders.
-Aww...- a small sigh escaped his lips, as he smiled.
He started patting his pockets, looking for his phone.
When he found it, he quickly took a picture.
Then as he went to pick her up, y/n's spidersenses made her wake up, tightening her grip on Mayday.
As she saw it was only Peter, y/n relaxed.
-Sorry, Peter, sorry.- y/n apologised -My spidersenses...- she started.
-Don't worry, y/n/n. Actually, I'm glad to see that you were ready to protect her.- he smiled, -She's been you good, wasn't she?-
-A little angel, really.-she replied, passing the sleeping kid to him -If you ever need a babysitter again, just ask me. I'm more than happy to look after her.- then y/n looked over to Hobie, who was still sleeping peacefully -Tomorrow you should ask Hobie for the pictures we took.-
-I most definitely will. Thanks again.- he thanked her again, as a portal opened in the living room -I'll see you around. Bye.-
-Bye Peter.- she waved as they disappeared.
Checking the time, seeing that it was already past midnight, y/n didn't feel like waking Hobie up, so she took a blanket, sat again next to him and covered both of them.
-Goodnight Hobs.- she whispered -Thank you for everything you're doing for me.-
Then she rested her head on his shoulder.
Neither of them were ready for what would happen in the following days.
