The weekend gave birth to the week, and I found myself in the car with three strangers.
Aiden drove the sleek black suv like a bat out of hell.
Everything he did was aggressive I realized. I held on to the armrest to keep myself in my seat.
I recognized the two other males from my first day here, but no one bothered to introduce themselves or speak to me for that matter.
"Dude, I can't believe the ole man put you on security detail." The boy with floppy blonde hair stated.
"I'm sitting right here." I snarled.
"Can it Rylan." Aiden snapped in unison with my defense.
We pulled up at a quaint building after a twelve minute drive, and I got out of the car slamming the door behind me for effect.
It wasn't like I wanted or needed to be babysat, but here I was.
I did my best to blend in with the other students around me.
Suddenly, an iron grip snatched my wrist, and I skidded to a stop.
I turned, my eyes narrowed and met Aidan's gaze with challenge.
"Never walk away from me." He snarled. His lip lifting in what I could only describe as a menacing half-smile. His eyes held a certain intensity that sent shivers down my spine.
I yanked my wrist from his grip, not willing to back down. "I don't need a babysitter, Aiden," I retorted, my voice filled with irritation.
Aiden's friends exchanged glances, clearly used to his domineering attitude. The blonde-haired boy chimed in again, "Just go with the flow, man. Aiden's got his orders."
I rolled my eyes and reluctantly fell into step beside Aiden as we entered the building. It was a nondescript place, and I couldn't help but wonder why I was here under such tight supervision.
As we walked through the corridors, the silence among us was deafening. Aiden's presence loomed over me like a dark cloud, making me feel like an intruder in my own life. I couldn't help but feel that there was something more to this security detail than met the eye.
Finally, we reached a classroom filled with students who were already seated. I took an empty seat near the back, still seething with annoyance. Aiden remained standing near the doorway, his gaze fixed on me.
I realized I was easily the oldest person in class. I guess that I had a good four years on everyone in here.
I narrowed my eyes at Aiden in question.
The professor took his place at the front. "Layla," he smiled at me. "Welcome to Pack Dynamics."
Was this guy serious? I did a once over of the room. Was it possible that this school was a shifter only school? I guessed that would be the only reason the professor would be talking so openly.
I wanted to ask questions as he went on with the lesson, but I would have drawn too much attention to myself.
I shoved into Aiden with my shoulder on the way out, irritation dripping from my words. "It would have been nice if you'd told me that this wasn't a normal school."
Amusement danced in his eyes, a subtle twinkle that both intrigued and infuriated me. He just shrugged, his indifference kindling the embers of my anger. "What would be the fun in that?"
My patience wore thin, and my voice quivered with annoyance. "Don't you have your own classes to attend?"
Aiden seemed to ponder for a moment, his gaze locked onto mine. "I'm not a student here."
