A.N. i update this whenever the inspiration strikes really. Also new cover! Also also another new alex book if you're interested called "if you'd be so willing". This story doesn't really follow any specific real world timeline, like I'm not even totally sure what year I've set this in, so don't worry about that. It's not important.

"Malibu. Lost in the way you move
Malibu. Can't stay away from you." - Malibu By The Driver Era

"Why are you all staring at me?" Kaiya asked even though she knew the answer. She knew why her best friends were staring at her so intensely. Her teammates were the nosiest people on the planet.

"Kaiyaaaaa." Rose dragged her name out in an high pitched whine. She flopped over the back of her airplane seat so she could face Kaiya better. Mal was in a similar position next to her.

Sam and Kelley sat on either side of Kaiya, just as eager to hear what she would have to say, if they could get it out of her.

"Rose." Kaiya said back in a mocking manner, albeit with less of a whine.

Kelley nudged Kaiya with her shoulder, "Come on, Kai, just tell them before they break the seats. How was your date with Hope?"

Kaiya rolled her eyes, she picked at her nails to feign disinterest. She didn't need her friends messing with her anymore than they were already going to.

"It was nice. We went out for drinks." She answered simply.

Mal and Rose groaned in unison.

"That's all? Nothing else? C'mon, Kai. Give us details." Rose urged.

Mal reached out to swipe at Kaiya but couldn't quite reach her, "Yeah, that can't be it. Did you kiss? Do more than kiss?"

Kaiya pinned Mal with a look, "Mallory. You know we didn't sleep together. You literally saw me come back to the room last night."

"It could have happened before," Mal pouted out in response.

Kaiya sighed again, "Look guys, it was nice. Hope was nice. Nothing weird happened. Nothing untoward happened. We didn't even kiss. We'll probably go out again when we have the time."

"Boo." Sam admonished from Kaiya's side. Kaiya flicked her thigh.

"So, she didn't act like...uh well her?" Rose asked.

Kaiya chuckled at the question. Hope couldn't not act like Hope even if her life was threatened, "No, she was still very Hope, but you're forgetting something crucial."

"What?"

"I like that about her."

"Like" wasn't even the half of it really. Kaiya enjoyed being able to be one of the few people who could put a smile on Hope's otherwise hardened face. She also liked it when she bossed her around, though, Kaiya rarely made that easy for Hope.

"Oh yeah. I forgot you're weird like that."

Kaiya elected to ignore that, "There was this girl that spilled her drink on me and Hope was less than enthused about how I handled that, but we talked about it and she got over it."

Kelley raised a concerned eyebrow, "What do you mean by 'less than enthused'?"

Kaiya bit at her lip in slight embarrassment, "Uhh, I may or may not have sort of flirted with her right in front of Hope's salad...in my defense I wasn't trying to! I thought I was being nice! Then the girl asked if I wanted a drink, I said 'No', but she was persistent, then Hope handled the rest. It was actually pretty attractive, Hope didn't even stand up to dismiss her..." Kaiya's voice trailed off and her eyes seemed to mist over.
