she jumped up at the sound of her phone buzzing on the kitchen counter. she was greeted by harry's contact name on her screen. it wasn't like they had completely neglected each other since she had left his house a few weeks ago, she just loved hearing from him.
"lovely." he said right as she put the phone to her ear.
"hiii," she answered in a sing-song tone.
"i'd like you to accompany me at dinner tonight." he announced. "eight p.m., i'll be right at your door. sound ideal?"
she pondered the idea for a bit. considering she had no food around and was too lazy to order something, she agreed. "i'd love to. where are we going?"
"aaand that's where this conversation ceases. you'll have to wait to find out. looking forward to seeing you." he hung up without her being able to reply; he always seemed to like to have the last word. she rolled her eyes and set the phone down, letting it charge before she had to leave.
she, upon looking at her closet, realized she should've asked him what kind of restaurant they were going to rather than where. she could either wear jeans and a t-shirt or a dress, there was no in between.
eventually, she decided on a black dress with little slits exposing her ribs. she figured she couldn't over do it too much with him because he always seemed to be dressed to the nines anyways. since she had time, she curled her hair so it fell in loose spirals. her makeup was minimal as she wasn't particularly feeling it. a few minutes before eight, she slipped on nude heels, as much as she hated them. they made her feel too unwieldy and more prone to injury than she already kind of was.
she sat on the counter staring at the ceiling until his light knock came at the door. she made sure to turn off all the lights as she made her way to the door. she had her hands clasped in front of her, appearing sort of shy, after she opened it. he was stood there examining the hallway, attention completely off of her. he was dressed in a bold colored shirt with a black bandana tied loosely around his neck. the buttons on his shirt were only half done, the top two or three hanging open. of course, his jeans and shoes were the same as always.
she cleared her throat to catch his attention. he turned calmly and was immediately stunned by her appearance. he always was amazed at how beautiful she looked, but this, this, was an absolute heart stopper.
"god, malia." he said, lips parted. his eyes trailed up and down her body and tried to keep himself steady.
she only smiled at this, taking his hand and leading him towards the parking garage. he followed after her, stumbling, still in awe.
the drive was long, which didn't bother either of them. they listened to one of the miscellaneous cds harry had stashed under his seat and he, as always, had his hand on her leg. every once and a while, when he would make a joke, she would hit his chest lightly. that was her way of saying "stop, you're not funny" without really saying it.
"we've made it." he declared, parking the car in a remarkably close spot. the restaurant was unknown to her, but nonetheless, did look expensive.
the urge to question him on his choice increased as they walked in. the lighting was dim, the seating was intimate, it was everything an expensive restaurant should be. the greeter soon showed them to their table after talking amongst her co-workers.
the menu was page after page of delicacies. it was hard for both of them to choose, but they soon settled. the waiter came and took their orders, a final question surfacing before he returned to the kitchen.
"will that be on one or two bills this evening?"
without giving harry a second glance, or even a glance at all, malia answered. "two, please." she gave him a smile as he walked away, then turned to harry, who looked ridiculously offended.
"i can't believe you just did that! no, no, malia, get him back here. i am not letting you pay." he said, gaze burning like fire. she shrugged, trying to hide her returning grin. "jesus, baby, really. i'm taking you to a hell of a nice dinner and-"
she reached over the table to place her hand on his. he was tense. "this is damn expensive, harry, and you know it."
"that doesn't mean i can't treat you to it." he frowned. his irises were a darker jade than usual. despite that, he was back to his joking in no time. "this isn't over."
she smiled and nodded lightly as he rubbed the back of her hand with his thumb. their wait was spent exchanging book recommendations.
the dinner was by all means fantastic. harry was used to the quality of the food due to being there before, but malia was absolutely blown away by the taste. as she ate, she went on a small rant about how food like this should go down in history. harry laughed along with her at every sentence she spoke.
harry was pleased when the bills came, which happened to be when malia was in the restroom. he, being the sly man he was, placed his credit card in his bill and one of his fifty dollar bills in malia's. he told the waiter to keep the change with the fifty.
she came back a few moments later, wondering where the checks were. he merely shrugged, his poker face not faltering one bit. when the waiter came back to return him his credit card, she shot him a look.
"you have got to be kidding me." she rolled her eyes as they got up from the table, putting on their jackets.
"can't blame me." he smirked, wrapping his hands around her waist. he lightly touched his lips to her's, drawing back a little before kissing her harder, more passionately.
"we're being stared at." she pointed out, glancing around at the watchful eyes. she'd always been a little uncomfortable with massive amounts of attention.
"good." he murmured, kissing her once more before escorting her out to the car.
