malia was doing things out of the ordinary, such as visiting her sister. and harry was just back to being sort of, well, lonely. they didn't really know how to cope with being by themselves after spending so many days with each other. even though that's all they knew before they met each other, it seemed foreign.

harry, though, spent more time at the winery. he drowned his sorrows in buying more socially acceptable decorations to accent the building with. it was odd because being among the norm of things attracted more people to enter the building and purchase his wine. he couldn't quite say he enjoyed his time there though because he didn't have her sat in front of him. this is going to take some getting used to, he thought.

malia spent her time in the spare bedroom of her sister, ivy's, house. luckily (for malia's sake), ivy didn't have a boyfriend, so it was a good one-on-one time opportunity for the two. kelsey had let malia off work for an early christmas break. business wasn't exactly booming, so it wouldn't hurt to let malia have a few more days off than planned.

on the morning of december eighteenth, six days after, the sun was for once beaming into the kitchen. both girls were only in small old t-shirts and panties, malia eating cereal while sat on the counter and ivy rummaging through the refrigerator.

"vee, don't you think we should go shopping soon?" malia asked, holding in her laugh at ivy's struggle to find something.

"i'd rather not," she replied, draping part of her upper body over the open door. "but, i can't find anything. let's go."

"why now?" malia pouted.

"now or never, hun." ivy smirked, striding off to get ready to go. malia huffed and poured the rest of her cereal down the drain.

she made her way down to the spare bedroom and got herself ready, pulling on leggings and a sweatshirt. she met her sister out by the car in four minutes flat.

they listened to bon jovi on the way there, singing along as they went. they grew up with this band, so naturally they couldn't help but have fun while listening (even this early in the morning).

they wandered around the store, picking things up as they went. ivy was soon getting tired of it all though, so she sent malia to do the rest of the "pantry food" shopping while she got the refrigerated items.

malia had her hands in her sweatshirt pocket as she tried to remember what isles they hadn't been in yet. she shrugged and decided just to start going up and down each one. as she turned the corner, she felt a familiar body brush up against her's.

"oh, i'm sorry love- sorry, malia." harry said, mumbling the last bit. he then just walked past like nothing had just happened and minded his business.

she felt like she'd just been punched in the stomach. he'd almost called her lovely. almost. she looked down at the ground, clutching the hem of her sweatshirt. she began to feel sick, but ivy walked up and snapped her most of the way out of it.

"let's go, lia. you look a bit pale." ivy tipped malia's head up by pressing a finger to her chin, then sent her a soft smile. malia thought about explaining, but figured that would only cause it to get worse.

the drive back was silent compared to the drive there. malia was overthinking the whole ten second encounter with harry. her thumbs toyed with each other as she thought about other scenarios, like one where she actually said something back. she was torn between wanting to be in his arms and wanting to slap him.

as much as the whole thing put her on edge, she tried not to let it ruin the time she had with ivy. she barely got to see her, her job being one where she had to travel a lot, but now that it was winter, her callings calmed. she didn't want one thing to completely soil it.

"vee, what do you wanna dooo?" she asked when they were both laying on ivy's bed. malia was on her back and had her head hanging off the foot and ivy was on her stomach, looking about ready to sleep again.

"get some coffee." ivy mumbled into the sheets.

"then let's go!" malia encouraged, moving herself so she was partially on top of her sister. it was like they were kids again and malia was wide awake at three in the morning, desperate for something to do. "can we go to the shops, too?"

"what's gotten into you?" she wondered, pushing malia off so she could sit up.

malia shrugged. "is that a yes, then?"

"sure, lia." ivy shook her head and laughed a little. she got up from the bed and turned to see malia still sprawled over the bed, holding a hand out for ivy to take. she rolled her eyes and pulled the excited girl up from the bed.

the pair both had a nice latte at yet another indie coffee shop malia had no idea existed. she wondered if she was the only one who never knew about these kinds of things.

they then spent the majority of the day talking and milling aimlessly among the shops downtown. malia found a haul of nice clothes that she, surprisingly, had enough money for. although, there may have been an instance where she had to ask ivy for a dollar.

around six, the sky had become dark and cloudy for the night and they decided to head back to ivy's. to get dinner out of the way, they simply had a small meal at a nearby franchaise.

the house was cold when they got back, ivy immediately letting out a curse as she jogged to turn up the heat. she told malia that the only thing she hated about her house was the automatic air system having a mind of it's own.

they sat on the couch with their feet propped on the coffee table. a quilt covered both of them as they watched one of their favorite childhood movies, lady and the tramp.

"i really enjoyed today, malia." ivy spoke quietly, grinning at her sister.

"i did too." malia replied, barely hiding her bit of surprise.
