Cruel Summer : Wreckin' All My Plans

"1 new message from Ollie"
Ollie: I'm at our usual spot, see you.

Jolene woke up her eyes slightly red from crying last night, but she had to force herself to not care. She took a bath and immediately dressed up. Checking her phone lying on her vanity table, she saw that Oliver had already texted her about where he was.

She looked at herself in the mirror, running her hands through her half blown-dried hair feeling how slightly wet the ends still were immediately shaking her head as she grabbed her hair dryer.

After a bit of prepping up she forced a smile on her face getting ready to go out the door, grabbing her phone she took a deep breath and opened her door, seeing a sobered up Jeremiah about to knock on her door.

Jolene's blood boiled to a slight extent gritting her teeth inside her mouth.

"Jo, I'm sorry I-" Jeremiah tried to hold her hand yet Jolene slapped it away.

"I don't want to hear it Jere." She paused for a second then continued.

"You know- I actually thought we had something, I was stupid enough to believe that my best friend would actually feel something about me, wasn't it obvious already Jere? How I felt towards you? You know what, forget it. It doesn't even matter cause you were so beyond drunk out of your mind. " Jo looked at him with such dissapointment and frustration that Jeremiah couldn't utter a word.

Jolene pushed past him and went down the stairs.

Susannah had heard someone go down the stairs in such a hurry that she halted to a stop making pancakes and turned her ehad to see whoever it was.

And there was Jolene.

"Hungry?" Susannah shouted from the kitchen.

Jolene however turned her down and said "Im going out, sorry Susannah!" she replied as she opened the front door and closed it on her way out.

Jeremiah tried following her down to explain but he didn't reach her on time making Susannah suspicious if they had a fight.

"What is up with the two of you?" Susannah skeptically asked her son.

Jeremiah walked over to the counter and sat down watching his mom continue to make pancakes. He waited a moment but then said.

"It's a misunderstanding, I did something so stupid that Jolene hated and i have to make it right, but I don't know how." Jeremiah looked down as Susannah passed him a plate of freshly cooked pancakes.

"Im sure whatever it is you two are fighting about, you can resolve it together. You two are best friends- you'll find a way to each other again soon. Im sure." Susannah smiled at her son walking over to him rubbing his back and mouthing an "Eat up."

Jolene rode her old bike down to the beach letting the warm summer air flow through her hair, it made her calm. She finally arrived at her and Ollie's usual spot, and also the spot she broke up with him.

Jolene parked her bike down on the sidewalk confident no one would steal it, it was getting quite old and rusty, she was pretty no one would take interest in it.

She walked over to where she and Ollie used to sit down and it had now become slightly cloudy providing her shade. She gazed into the endless sea, the wind blowing through her hair softly. Jolene then turned around to see Oliver standing there smiling arms outstretched as if asking for a hug.

Jolene couldn't help but smile and ran to him giving him a hug.

"God, i really needed a hug today." Jolene chuckled softly as she honestly told Oliver.

Oliver's face turned concerned yet still smiling warmly.

"What's up? Is something wrong? You know you can tell me anything right?" Oliver set his hand down on her head rubbing it, Ollie towered over her as he was quite tall. Jolene took his hand off from her head and joked.

"Why do you still do that? You must've missed me alot huh?" Jo snorted making them both laugh at each other.

"Very, I missed you alot- you can't even imagine." Ollie diffusely said to her however in a joking manner, making Jo's stomach flutter.

"To be honest, I missed you too- i miss going to your house and geting free muffins whenever i came over." Jolene smiled at him warmly. She missed this feeling but it wasn't as genuine as she did feel for him before.

"Wow, im flattered. You're more than welcome at our house if you want to, you know. Mom keeps asking about you now that she has seen you again. You know, all that stuff." Ollie scratched his head slightly fixing his posture.

Jolene chuckled as she elbowed him ever so slightly.

"Well tell her I'm coming over tomorrow. " Jolene said straightforwardly making Ollie snap his head towards her.

"Wait, are you serious? You're coming over? I mean thats great but- are you sure?" Oliver still didn't believe what he heard from Jolene.

"Yeah? Do you want me to like change my mind? Okay then-" She smiled threateningly however joking, but Ollie pulled her in to hug her.

"Nuh uhh, that would be great!" he exclaimed as he pushed Jolene away from the hug gently as he was beaming with joy like he still did summers ago— his sequin smile; radiating his overflowing happiness, he was a very bright person, he remained optimistic even though put through the toughest situations. Maybe that was one of the reasons Jolene had fallen in love with him, even for a short period of time.

"You're so cute when you're all smiley, you have like smile lines from smiling so much." Jolene admired the lines on the sides of his lips and traced her fingers on it sending and electric feeling through Ollie's body.

"This smile only exists when im with you." Oliver cupped Jo's face gently and admired as well.

The look of love in his eyes made Jo wonder, how was she so ignorant of how this boy loved her, why did she have to leave him for a boy that didn't love her?

Jolene touched Ollie's hand that was on her face and she smiled and Oliver smiled back softly.

She was his one and only, his lifeline.

He was her first love, her lover.

Even in my worst times
You could see the best of me
Flashback to my mistakes

My rebounds, my earthquakes
Even in my worst lies
You saw the truth in me

And I woke up just in time
Now I wake up by your side

My one and only, my lifeline.

The day went on happily with Jeremiah off her mind and Ollie with her, it has been a while since she experienced genuine happiness coming from a person.

She thought, what if wasn't Jeremiah, what if it was Oliver all along?
