Manisha sighed and lay her head against the cool steel elevator wall.

"Hum kiu aise hain?" she said softly looking up at Abhishek as he paced furiously in the small space looking more and more like an enclosed animal.

"Bolna kya chahti hain ap?" he said with a frown.

"Humare bolne ka matlab hum dono aise kiu hain? Kiu hum dono aise kutta billi jaise ladte rehte hain? Kabhi kabhar to aisa lagta hain k hum bolenge asman neela hain par ap usme bhi ladenge saying no Sky is green!"

"Actually in some countries..."

Manisha glared at him. "Not now Abhishek Ji please, not now."

Abhishek ran a hand through his hair and pressed the emergency button a few more hundred times to make himself feel a bit better about the helpless situation they were in.

Eventually he slumped his shoulders and answered her. "pata nahi I guess we just... We just care more than anyone else."

Manisha cocked her head to the side. She didn't look convinced. Abhishek rolled his eyes and sat down opposite her, his knees pulled up because his long legs couldn't stretch out in the minuscule lift space.

"Hum dono ko jeetna pasand hain. It's who we are, we're just too passionate about things." Abhishek argued.

"Dekhiye humein lagta hain k abhi hum dono ko yeh sab bachkani harkate chor deni chahiye. It's time we just learn to let it go, Mr. Malhan. Yeh sab stupid fights ka natija nazar araha hain na apko. Raat k 9:30 baje lift mein phase hain hum dono with 0 sign of help."

Abhishek picked at some invisible fluff on his trousers. "what if I don't want to let it go." he mumbled.

"Matlab?" Manisha asked.

Abhishek's eyes suddenly locked onto hers. "Apko sunna hain. Fine. Here it is. These childish fights with you is the best fucking part of my day. Apke sath is lift mein phase rehna bhi mujhe qubool hain just as long as I can be with you because if you're not there then what the fuck do I have left?"

Manisha blushed. "Hum dost bhi to ban sakte hain. Haina?"

Abhishek blinked at her for a few moments. "Par agar mujhe sirf apka dost ban k nahi rehna hain to? Agar-"

"Hey are you guys okay in there?" Jad's voice suddenly cut through a gap in the lift doors, just before his grinning head popped through the opening he had created. He shook his head at the sight of them both. "Why can't the two of you just get along?" he said with a sigh. Manisha and Abhishek looked at each other. They didn't have an answer to his question but the comment made both of them cast their minds back to the first time they had met...

One year ago...

Manisha placed her family photo down on the desk in front of her. Her own desk. In her own fancy office! She had worked so hard to become head of marketing for B & B Corp. and she was determined to do a good job. Her first order of business was going to be getting the department budget increased. How were they supposed to make a success of any of the products on the embarrassingly small advertising allocation? It was impossible. She double checked her outlook calendar. There was the meeting in bright red.
