Maverick's POV (1 year after Goose passed away):
It's been 1 year since the accident that made Goose pass away. I have been spending as much time with Bradley as much as I can since I'm Navy and he's Goose's son and he means the world to me and he's now 5 years old. I have been thinking about adopting a little kid of my own. I decided today I was going to adopt a little kid. I borrowed Carole's car to see if I find a little kid to take home with me. I went to the orphanage and saw little kids running around in the front but there was one little girl sitting on the stairs of the orphanage outside coloring. I parked the car and started to walk up to the little girl and once I got closer to her, she looked up at me and I just new I need to take her home with me.
"Hi, are you looking someone, Mister?" The little girl asked me and I smiled down at her and kneeled down to her.
"Yes I am, do you think you can show me where the owner is?" I asked her and she nodded her head and grabbed my hand and leads me to an office. She knocked on the door and opened it and I saw a middle age woman sitting at her desk.
"Hi, Kylie. Who is your new friend?" The woman asked.
"Hello, my name is Pete Mitchell. I want to hopefully adopt a little kid today if that is possible." I told her and the little girl Kylie was still holding my hand. I sat down and pick up Kylie and placed her on my lap.
"I think it is possible. But I want to get to know you first before we do anything about the adopting process so Kylie can you give me and Mr. Mitchell a few minutes alone?" The woman asked her and she nodded and let go of my hand and left the room.
"So, tell me. What kind of job do you have Mr. Mitchell?" She asked me.
"I'm in the Navy but I have always wanted a little kid of my own. My best friend passed away about one year ago during training at Top Gun and after he passed, I have been friends with his wife and have helped rise their son and I would like to have someone that I can care for as my own." I told her and we started to talk more about what I wanted for a child of my own but I couldn't stop thinking about that little girl, Kylie.
"How long has that little girl Kylie been here?" I asked the woman.
"She has been here since she was a newborn. She 4 years old now and is one of the kindest little kids we have here at the Orphanage. Why, are you interested in her?" She asked me and I nodded.
"There was just something about her, that just felt right and I love that she was extremely kind to me and she also seems like a smart kid as well." I told her.
"She is really smart and you would actually be the first person interested in that beautiful little girl. Let's go find her and you can talk to her for a little bit before making any final decisions." She told me and we left and go find her. As we looked around for Kylie, I finally spotted her and she was reading close to the entrance of the building. I looked over at the woman and she nodded for me to go and talk to her. I took a deep breath really wanting this little girl to like me and come home with me and to meet Bradley.
"Hi, Kylie. What are you reading?" I asked her as I kneeled down to her.
"I'm reading Hurry Up, Franklin. But I'm having a hard time reading some of the words." She told me.
"You want me to help you?" I asked her and she smiled at me and nodded. I sat down next to her and placed her on my lap and started to help her read. We started talking more and I just love her, she's sweet, kind, smart, and brave.
"Kylie, I ask you a question?" I asked her and she looked up at me.
"Sure." Kylie told me and started to give me her full attention.
