"I'm getting a really bad migraine." Carlos sighed. "I will drive you home. The last time you got a migraine at work you ended up not being able to see because you were in so much pain. Let me get you home, love." Robert said, closing his file. He got up from his chair and grabbed his own and Carlos' jacket. Carlos had gotten up and walked to the door. He wanted to argue that he could just take a pill and wait for it to get better but he was pretty sure that he had already taken his last pill and he would quite literally die in max an hour.

So he was pretty happy that Robert was driving him home.

After having to beg and playing the sick-card about three times Carlos had finally gotten Robert to stay. Robert didn't really like staying at Carlos'. Not because he didn't like his house, it was a really comfortable space and was much more personal than Robert's place.

But he was so not ready to meet Anna. He knew he had to meet her at some point, he was dating her husband. But he was really fine with it being later rather than sooner.

Being in their home felt weird. Like he was an intruder. It was weird to see their leftovers in the fridge or the two not yet washed coffee cups in the sink they must have had this morning or the pictures on the walls. There was even a really big one of their weeding. It felt like a punch to the stomach.

Robert knew he had nothing to be jealous of; Carlos loved him and he spent a lot of time with him - even out of work. But this was weird. Not that his partner was in two relationships at the same time - they had all consented to that - but that suddenly Robert was involved in the other relationship. Kind of.

Plus, he was literally roaming through all of their cupboards in order to find a cloth. Sure, he could ask Carlos where they were. But he didn't want to. For one, because he had brought Carlos up into Anna's and his bedroom and he didn't really want to go there more than he had to. And on another note, Carlos really needed rest and a quiet place. Having his rest interrupted by Robert who was searching a damn cloth was really not what he needed.

Finally, he found a cloth he could wrap the ice pack in. He grabbed something to drink for Carlos and made his way up the stairs to his boyfriend's bedroom. After he had entered, he immediately closed the door again. Just seconds later he hit his foot on a closet or something, followed by hitting his elbow on another piece of furniture.

It took everything in him to not cuss out the whole world because Carlos needed quiet. But this was definitely another reminder that he did not belong here.

Finally, he reached the bed and sat down on the edge of it. His eyes had gotten used to the dark and he could at least see Carlos a tiny bit. "I got you some coke to take your medicine to." he whispered. "Coke?" Carlos laughed, regretting it immediately and pressing his hand to his head.

"If you have a migraine, you are supposed to drink caffeinated beverages. And I don't know how your coffee machine works so... coke." Carlos smiled at him and took some pain killers, trying to drink as much coke as possible in one go.

Then he laid back down and Robert placed the wrapped ice pack on his forehead. Carlos sighed, apparently satisfied.

"You should take a nap now. I'll go home but if you need me, you can call and let me know." "What? No. Please stay. My head is killing me, I'd rather have someone here." "I can phone Anna." Robert offered, not really liking the suggestion himself.

"No, she is out of town for some important work thing. Please just stay."

So, Robert stayed. He refused to lay down in bed next to Carlos. Instead, he just sat on the floor, holding Carlos' hand.

Robert wasn't sure how long they had been there when he suddenly heard steps. Quickly, he got up, feeling caught even though he wasn't sure why.

"Carlos? Are you home already?" a woman asked when she entered the room. Surprised, she stared at Robert. "He has a migraine. He wanted someone to stay here with him. Well, if you're here now, I'll go home. Um... Tell him to call, please." Robert looked at Carlos, then he went to the door, quickly walking past Anna to leave the house.

"Robert, wait." Anna said behind him. Robert turned around and looked at her. "You make him happy."

Whatever Robert had expected, it wasn't that. "Oh. You too. He always smiles when he talks about you. And... I mean... Look at the pictures, he loves you so much."

Anna leaned against the wall and smiled at him: "Robert, I know that tone and that look from other partners I had. Carlos loves you. God, he is on his knees for you - I'm pretty sure in more than just one way. And I know you feel out of place here and a bit weird and everything, but he wants you to be here. Yesterday at dinner he got you a beer from the fridge! You were not there."

"That's nice of him. I would have liked a beer." Robert mumbled.

"We have a guest bedroom. I'm sure Carlos would like you to be here when he wakes up. You can sleep here. Usually, my boyfriend sleeps in there so everything is ready, nothing to worry about." "You ban Carlos to the guest bedroom?" Robert laughed.

Anna grinned: "No. I mean my boyfriend, not my husband. Carlos slept their the last time like forever ago. When he had his last girlfriend. That was during the first year you knew each other." "I didn't know he had a girlfriend back then. Otherwise... Well, I would have probably been confused why he is cheating on his wife since he doesn't seem like a person who would cheat."

"He isn't. I always know about his crushes, partners, people he dates or wants to date or chats with." "Yes, I know. He is the same with me. I think. I don't know about any other people he dates or anything." "Me neither." Anna smiled, "So he probably doesn't date."

They stared at each other for a while. Robert understood why Carlos married Anna. She was beautiful, seemed really nice, a good person. And the way she dressed suggested that she was also a very successful woman in her work space.

"Stay here, Robert. He will be happy to see you when he is better." Robert stared at Anna for a moment, not really fond of the idea of staying. Anna seemed nice, yes, but this was still weird.

"I want to show you something. Come on." Anna took his hand and pulled him with her down the stairs. They went into the kitchen and Anna pointed at the fridge. Robert carefully stepped closer, like he expected a bomb to be hidden in there.

"That's me." he mumbled. Besides a notepad, some unused magnets and pictures of Anna with Carlos and Anna with another man there were three pictures of Robert with Carlos. They were all a bit wonky since Robert hated getting pictures of him taken so he had always tried to stop Carlos.

But there were pictures of him and his boyfriend on the fridge.

"There's also one in the bedroom. You were the first one he did that for. I was seriously afraid he would start moaning your name in bed!" Anna laughed. "I think I'll go home and get some things and then stay here."

"Get some more things. You can stay for two nights or so." Anna winked at him.

"God, I need coffee. This fucking migraine knocked me out for the- Robert." Carlos seemed honestly surprised but then he started smiling, "You stayed here?" "Anna convinced me." Robert said. "Oh, she's the best." Carlos grinned and sat down on Robert's lap, kissing him happily and then stealing his coffee.

Robert didn't complain, just hugged Carlos and pulled him into another kiss. He had slept like shit, kind of worried about Carlos but also having nightmares as usual. But now he had his boyfriend in his arms. Plus, it was Saturday so if no one got killed today, they could take the day off. Maybe he would get some cuddles out of it.

It seemed like his chances were good because right now Carlos was nestled into his neck, sipping coffee and enjoying some soft head pets while Anna was typing on her iPad across the table.

Maybe, meeting Anna sooner was not that horrible after all.
