"So... What's our plan for tonight?" Carlos asked with a calm expression on his face.

Robert raise his left eyebrow, not moving away from his desk. "We don't have any plans." he responded, looking at Carlos like he had suggested something that was just utterly insane. Carlos seemed to just ignore that, shrugging as he got up to empty the rest of the Brazilian coffee that was still in the pot into his cup. "Well, let's make one." he suggested, leaning his hip against the cupboard.

Robert raised his eyebrow again: "I have my own plans. And they do not include you."

Carlos squinted his eyes like he was suspicious. "I thought we were a team." he finally said. His voice was still calm and he seemed collected but his tone somehow suggested something whiny.

"We are. Which is why I need a break." Robert said and finally got up, walked around the table and grabbed his leather jacket from the hook on the door.

It wasn't very Robert-like to take a break from his job. This man's life couldn't be further away from a work-life-balance. His life was work. There wasn't a moment in which he didn't analyze the person opposite of him or thought about his current case. The moment he solved a case he was back on Captain Blake's doorstep, practically begging for the next one. He wasn't someone who could deal with not working.

Robert Hunter didn't do breaks.

"You need a break from me?" Carlos asked, sounding actually offended.

"Yes. So I'll still like you tomorrow." Robert responded, putting on his jacket and grabbing the door handle to leave the room.

"Wow, I'm that bad, huh?"

There was a grin playing on Carlos' lips and Robert wasn't entirely sure how to place it. And that meant a lot because Robert always knew how to place an expression.

"What do you want to do?" he asked, letting his hands drop to his sides again.

Carlos raised his hand in a somehow defensive matter: "Oh no, no, no. Don't worry about me. I don't want to ruin your plans."

Robert thought back to his plans for this evening. Getting drunk and eating fast food on his couch. If he got drunk and lonely enough, he might even go out and find someone to fuck with.

But in general, his evening just sounded like absolute shit. And the cheap booze he had at home really wasn't worth it.

"Well if you want to spend time with me so desperately, you will have to come join me in the liquor store. And I need some food so I'll go get groceries too." Robert said, deciding that he did in fact need this stuff and that it couldn't hurt to not go get all of it alone. Grocery stores were boring and they sounded a little more fun with Carlos. Just a little, though.

"Sounds good. I need to get some stuff too." "Liquor or food?" "Both, actually. And I'm not good with liquor - unless it's Brazilian. So you can help me pick."

Robert shook his head, not quite sure what he was supposed to think of all that but he had already agreed so there was no going back anymore. He wouldn't get rid of Carlos that easy, he knew that.

The longer they stayed in the grocery store, the clearer it became to Robert that Carlos did not in fact need groceries. And that he needed to get better eating habits but that was a problem for after his next appointment at his doctor.

"So... What about Anna?" Robert asked, catching up with Carlos. Carlos furrowed his brows: "What about her?" He grabbed a package of vegan gummy bears and threw them into his basket. The gummy bears joined a crappy looking book, a bottle of oil, a single pear and a package of children's band-aids (all very much suggesting that Carlos just picked random stuff from the shelves to seem like he was actually trying to get groceries).
