"Sit down, Charles, sit!" Principle Simmons invited Dad and I into his office.
Dad is proud of me; I know it because he can't stop commenting on my handiwork at Homecoming. It was absolutely amazing, the fireworks lit up Seattle's gloomy night sky and the cater waiters I hired were nothing but polite and courteous. My year was surprised as well, no matter how much they denied it I could tell they were proud to be in a year where their Head Boy cared enough to make their Homecoming different.
"Friday night was successful!" Principle Simmons congratulated, handing Dad a couple a photos from the night.
"Yes it was." Dad wraps his arm around the back of my chair.
By that gesture, I knew that Dad was motioning Principle Simmons to put his focus on me instead of him. I appreciate it but I couldn't have done it without Sean.
"The Principle of our Sister School was impressed as well." Principle Simmons finally switches his gaze, "She kept on saying how brilliant of an idea this was."
I quickly loosen my tie for a quick airway, "The student committee were pleased with this idea as well. We were trying to think outside the box."
"And so they should!" Principle Simmons chuckles, "I don't know how the next Head Boy is going to top this one!"
"Let's get down to business, Matthew." Dad abruptly changes the subject.
And while both important figures were talking to one another, I can't help but recall every single moment of Friday night. It was absolutely superb; the girls of St Martha High were amazed with our elaborate details in event planning. I can't lie, Helen helped me a lot.
"Dude, this is incredible." Michael pats me on the back.
"Thanks man." I look to the self-serving table to see Eddy taking his pick.
"You enjoying the food?"
"Absolutely." He swallows his cucumber-slaw.
"Where's Oliver?" I ask the boys, wondering when the speeches will commence.
"He's keeping an eye out for Mia. We don't want her to cause a scene." Michael notes, leaving me to make the preparations for the adults.
"Thanks guys." I whisper, keeping an eye out Dad.
I would have thought all the teachers were attending but it seems like I'm mistaken because I'm let down once again. No sight of Miss Douglas. I can't believe I said that to her, honestly I was thinking by the balls that night. She is beautiful; I mean every word of it. It might seem like she has dull eyes but there's intensity to her and I can't put my finger on it.
"Spencer!" Dad greets me.
"Dad, try the appetisers!" I hand him a napkin.
"Who came up with this idea?" Dad gestured the Space Needle's view.
"I did." I tell him with determination.
"Good thinking, your school can enjoy their time without causing a ruckus to the public."
I take the much-needed compliment, "Thanks Dad."
"I would like to make a donation." Dad voice pulls me back.
"Already?" Principle Simmons is surprised, "Charles, you've already contributed your share at the beginning of the year. There's no need."
"Dad?" I look to him to see if he's being serious.
