Max's POV

I had woken up to my step dad kicking in my door "I'm sorry dad" he looked at me with fire in his eyes "what the hell did you just call me!" He picked me up and started to punch me in the face. He dropped me to the floor and started kicking me in the ribs "it's sir! Now put some makeup on and get your ass to school!" With that he walked out of my room. I put on some makeup, got my things and made my way to school.

When I got to school I saw my best friend standing there. When I got up to him, he whispered to me asking how I was "he didn't let me eat last nigh, and this morning he beat the shit out of me for calling him dad" Lucas put some money in my hand "we better get to class" we started to walk to class "I can't take your money" I tried to put it in his hand "keep it, please" "thanks" I put the money in my shirt pocket.

When we got to class sir said hello to us and we took are seats at the back of class "today we have two special people giving us a vest" that's when two people walked into class "hello I'm detective Jay Halstead" the first one said and I lowered my head "and I'm detective Hank Voight" my head was still low and Lucas notice "maybe they can help?" I look at Lucas "no it well only make things worse for me"

Near the end of class I was finding it hard to breathe "are you alright Max?" I look at Lucas "I'm finding it hard to breathe" Lucas looked at his watch "you've got eight minutes left do you think you can hang on?" "I'll try"

Jay's POV

Class had just ended when all the students started to leave when we got to the last two I saw one of them fall on the floor. I ran over too the two boys "please help him!" One of the boys said "what happened?" The boy was trying his hardest to get it out "he was finding it hard to breathe and he was holding his chest" I ripped open his shirt to see it was purple "this is Jay Halstead badge number 51163 requesting ambulance too Chicago high male unconscious" I watch the boy "come on Max wake up!" I see him grab his face "Jay how far out is that ambulance" I grab my radio "how far out is my ambo" I waited a few seconds "twenty five minutes out" I look up at Hank "this boy doesn't have twenty five minutes" Hank was thinking "get him into the back of the car and call Will" I pick up the boy and carried him to the car and put him in the back with me. I pulled out my phone and called Will

On call

Will - hey brother what's up I'm kinda busy

Me - Will I've got a boy and we are on the way to med

Will - I'll be waiting for yous

Call ended

A few hours later

Max's POV

I woke up in a hospital bed and I started to panic "hey calm down" it was the detective from before "you've got to let me go home" I got up out of bed "ok what's your dad's phone number?" He pulled out his phone "no you just got to let me go home!" I tried to get out the door but he blocked me "you're not leaving this hospital room!" I took a seat in the bed "fine!" I laid down and pulled the blanket over me "can you leave us?" "sure thing" the detective came and seat in front of me "why can't I get your father to come here?" "Because" "because why" I had tear's running down my face "because he'll hit me" after realising what I had said I started to cry harder. The detective pulled he into a hug "that's why he can't come here detective" I said as I pulled out of the hug "please call me Jay" he took a seat on the bed "does he hit you often?" I nodded my head "Lucas my friend was the only person I could trust with this every single day he would pack more food and medical supplies into his bag for me or give me money for food" I wiped the tear's away "how long has this been going on for?" I try to think "every since my mother married him he isn't my real father he's my step dad" I was having a hard time talking about this "hey it's ok if you want to take a break?" I nodded my head and he left my room
