Afternoon was a bliss, painting the skies of Montressor the pleasant orange, pink, and purple. For Amaia, the sight is absolutely ethereal to look at; reminding her of Friday afternoons in Briar's grandmother's place, a scent of cinnamon rolls wafting all over the corners of the nostalgic wooden walls, and the sunset's rays coming through the curtains- it is her definition of peace. In which, for once, she worried nothing about not exceeding the expectations of her strict grandmother, in which make her feel more free and less suffocated. Her escape, her solace- and she's lucky to have Briar as her childhood bestfriend that she can be able to feel such sense with her. However, to the other two, it is migraine inducing.
Amaia would always agree with whatever Delbert would say (even though she never understood his rambles about his discovery or all that science thing), but she definitely more agreed at how he'd call the boys as being a source of his headaches other than all his research.
This afternoon in particular, they were out on the terrain at the back of the mansion riding their solar surfers like reckless teenagers on their reality riding their motorcycle. The girls however stayed at the mansion to clean up for the third time on a week.
Delbert had gotten out from his messy living room only to shriek at the sight of a white thing passing over a corner- assuming that it is a ghost. Fortunately, he found out that it is just Amaia already dressing on her sleeping dress and carrying a stack of papers, looking absolutely clueless at the jumpy adult.
Delbert sighed in relief, thankful that there's no need to call a priest or anything that can get rid of such paranormal being. "Will you stop doing that?" He demanded.
Amaia's eyebrows immediately knitted in confusion. "Do what?" She tilted her head.
"That!" Delbert exclaimed, gesturing her. "Scaring me all the time."
Amaia, still confused, looked down to check what was wrong. Finding none did her head immediately shoot up towards the attention of Delbert and asked. "What's wrong with wearing a white sleep dress, roaming around the mansion with a candle on it's hands or stack of papers, and acting like a sick orphaned victorian era child on midnight?"
Delbert is, of course, speechless at everything that came out of Amaia's mouth. It always made him wonder about how these kids could came out with such concepts randomly, he could only think of what's possibly inside the kids mind. It is just for him to know and find out.
He just shook his head in amusement. "Whatever it is- I'll be off for a few minutes." Delbert told her, taking his case with him and started to walk pass Amaia; the girl, however, was known to Delbert as being curious and he wasn't surprised when the girl followed him along the halls.
"Where are you going?" Amaia asked, as if she's a kid again on asking her father whenever he left the house with her mother. A memory in which she wished she never remembered.
Delbert shrugged and gave the girl a smile. "An old friend of mine. Don't worry, I'll be back without you realizing it- and Ami?" Amaia's head immediately looked at him and listened. "Make sure you remind Briar about the experiment."
"Oh right, the signal" Amaia muttered. For a year, Magnus had convinced Delbert to conduct an experiment to atleast falsify the extinction of Earth. Because so far, there was no further evidence about the claim. It was on the books, but there's no telling if it's real or not. For they found out that it is just a legend.
The idea was simple and blunt, since Magnus had suggested it; it's like what he read and heard about in any NASA documentaries and articles, just sending codes to where it could reach and read for any signal of the particular planet. Delbert just let the boy do what he wants, until he'll take the turn. And so far, there are still no signs.
