Jinx opened the door of the basement.

"Yael!" she called out before unlocking the second door.

She opened the door to see Jayla put the blade that she was holding on the table.

"Hey Jinx, what took you so long?" the teenager asked her.

"Had a couple from Hydra tailing me. Had to lose them. Sorry if the alarm woke you," Jinx told her.

"Did she..." Jayla asked. Jinx nodded slightly. Jayla's blue eyes looked down at the ground.

"The alarm is fine, I was planning on getting up early today to train anyway," she stuck a piece of bread in the toaster. Jinx looked over at the couch where Gabriella was sound asleep on the couch. Jinx sighed as she went to gently shake her awake. Gabi yawned.

"Evening Jinx," she said sleepily.

"Morning bookworm," she corrected. Gabi paused as she looked at the clock and realized that she'd fallen asleep on the couch all night. Again.

"Hey listen, in my defense, you were supposed to be back by eleven," Jinx rolled her eyes.

"So, when are you going to let me go demon hunting?" she asked her.

"You know the deal. Not until you're thirteen," Jinx reminded her.

"Ugh, c'mon. That's just a few months away," Gabi groaned.

"Then you can wait since it's just 'a few months away'," Jinx smiled, dropping her bag on a chair.

"Pleasepleaseplease!" Gabriella pleaded. Jinx considered her.

"Fine! I'll see if I can find a smaller demon for you sometime. Your armor still fits right?" Jinx gave in.

"Yes!" Gabi muttered.

"Um, yeah, yeah. It still fits alright," she added. Jinx smiled at her excitement.

"Good, I'll go get changed before I'll do some training. You can march yourself to bed since you were up so late," she walked towards their rooms at the back of the basement. Gabi veered left to her room while Jinx opened the door to hers.

Jinx stepped into her small room, pulling off her armor before putting on a loose t-shirt and shorts. She twisted the silver ring on her index finger, running her finger over the imprint of the F

Who are you? Jinx. Jinx Fairchild. Not Joy. Not Shadow. Not Morgenstern. Jinx Fairchild. she reminded herself. Sighing, she turned around and stepped out the door.

"BOO!" a little girl's voice called out. Jinx felt a small child wrap her arms around her legs.

"HIYA JINX!"

"Fianna," she sighed, softly placing a hand on the little girl's curly dark red hair.

"FIANNA! JUST BECAUSE YOU WANT TO WAKE UP AT 5:30, DOESN'T MEAN THAT I DO!" Gabriella yelled from her room.

"Sorry!" Fianna called back.

"Fianna, haven't I told you not to yell in the house?" Jinx reminded her.

"I know, but I was just so excited to see you!" she announced, bouncing on the balls of her feet. Jinx smiled. She was so different from her mother.

How nice, you've brought me a new victim. I'll help you kill her like I killed her mother, Jinx's smile instantly faltered.

Shut up you bitch, she replied in her head, biting her tongue, filling her mouth with the irony taste of blood, and the burning of demon ichor.

"Jinx?" Fianna's voice snapped her back to reality. She handed Jinx a tissue which she put to her mouth, pulling it back to reveal red blood and black tar.
