"So, this is the girl?" Tony asked.
"Yeah, this is her," Steve answered.
"She doesn't look like much, you're sure this is her?" he scoffed, looking at the girl through the one way glass.
"Tony, if I wasn't sure, she would be in the interrogation room, not a cell," Steve reminded him. The girl turned her head to look at the mirror, smiled and waved at them, staring Steve directly in the eye.
"How does she see us?" Stark asked, slightly freaked out.
"You have to be farther away from one way glass for it to be one way. You should probably be quieter if you don't want me listening, I have very good hearing," the girl said. The two men jumped backward.
"So, now what do we do with her?" Tony whispered.
"Nat and Fury are going in to interrogate her now," Steve whispered back.
"I can still hear you!" the girl called tauntingly.
----------
"So, let's start with the basics, who are you?" Fury asked. Through the glass the girl chuckled to herself.
"Hm? Oh, I am many things. Lady of Edom, the first wife, Queen of Hell, some even call me the serpent, oh, how they flatter me," the girl laughed, cold, high and haunty.
"I meant a name, not a riddle, " Fury replied, unamused.
"Hm, well I have many of those. I suppose... you may call me Athena. That's not my name but it will do, for now," she smiled.
"Athena, goddess of wisdom, one of the twelve Olympians. Strange name to pick," Nat said.
"It would seem as such, unless you truly know the goddess. Yes, she was a great warrior, who won not just by skill, but by trickery. But underneath all that, she was petty, vindictive and malicious. Such skills, which rival my own," There was something deeply unsettling about how she acted. It made Natasha and Fury want to back away, though they refused to show it.
"You said that that's not your name, what is your actual name?" Fury asked, refusing to let the girl get off topic.
"Well, I'm not going to tell you. I just love to leave people guessing, don't you?" Fury remained stone faced.
"You play poker? You'd win every game. Anyways, you amuse me, so I'll tell you what; I'll tell you my name, just before I slit your throat, you too Widow," Athena continued.
"Was that a threat?" Fury asked.
"Was that?" she replied.
"Yes," he answered. She paused.
"Y'know what? I don't think that I'll slit your throats. No, I don't think that you two would go down like lambs to slaughter. You, you'd want to go down fighting, and you, far too much blood on your hands to be called a lamb. I think that instead, I'll stab you through the heart, like I did to your blond buddy," Athena said, trying to get a ruse out of Natasha.
"If you were aiming for his heart, you must be a really bad shot. You hit his right shoulder-" Natasha said.
"-My hand slipped," Athena interrupted her.
"And how often does it slip?" Natasha asked.
"Anyway, I suppose you're wondering about those seven Hydra agents that you found dead," Athena said, changing topic.
"And how often does your hand slip?" Natasha asked again, louder.
"I suppose you've guessed that I killed them. You're right, of course. I haven't had as much fun in oh, months? I really should go out more often. Oh, how they screamed-" Natasha hit the glass as she leaned forward.
"I said how often does your hand slip!" she said. Athena looked at her, deciding what to think of this outburst.
"Only when she tries and stops me..." Athena answered, bitter.
"But, she isn't here right now. I've buried her deep. She isn't here to stop me from killing you all. I will leave you all to die, bleeding out, gasping for air, but I think I will leave you for last. You will watch all of your friends die before I plunge my dagger into you and watch as you burn away. And then-" she paused her rant, blinking slowly.
"I will, I will bring-" she bit her tongue, literally.
"I will bring her back so she can see what destruction her hands have brought. And then-" she looked down. She glanced back up and her expression was different. Gentler, more human, her eyes a dark green. She blinked again and it was gone.
"I am in control. I will destroy everything. I will kill all whom you were meant to protect as you watch helplessly. There will be nothing that you can do. I will kill those children that you love so dearly, just like how I killed-" she paused again. Fury and Nat would never learn who Athena had killed.
It happened so fast. One second she was just sitting there, the next she had a knife in her hand. She raised it, and stabbed her other hand. It went clean through. She pulled it out and watched the liquid that leaked from the wound.
It wasn't red like blood. It was black, like tar.
It oozed out, slowly changing from black to blood red.
Fury and Natasha didn't know what to stare at, the black blood, or the hand which was miraculously healing the wound.
"Don't you dare bring her up. You have no right to say her name," she spat out more of the black blood.
The girl glanced around her cell, at the one way mirror to her left, her gaze shifting to the glass which they were watching her through.
"Where the Hell am I, and who the Hell are you?" she asked, setting her bright green eyes on the two of them.
