oh em gee ! coai1412 posted again?? you know, i'm going to be so honest right now and just admit that i completely forgot about the fact i used to write at some point. i've been extremely busy being unproductive and rotting in bed (got to love depression right) i didn't even think about writing at all until i saw this tiktok on my fyp talking about a daily writing prompt and it's all i've been thinking about for the past few days. i didn't exactly follow all the way through it but it definitely inspired this. so i thought i should give writing another shot, maybe now i will be more dedicated to it (i highly doubt this tbh). i'm very unsure about this as i've recently started disliking my writing style but i hope you somehow enjoy this !

i do NOT own detective conan / case closed.
shiho sighs as she leaves her home office to open the door for the person who has been ringing the doorbell for what felt like an eternity.
"god, you really are annoying.", she exclaims as she opens the door for none other than the famous detective of the east.
"that's not a way to greet your friend.", he rolls his eyes in a playful manner, "did you finish your analysis" in an instant shinichi got serious as he brought up their work.
shiho walks him to her sacred space (her home office) and proceeds to sit back on her desk, typing on her computer. "i'm almost done. by the way, you've got to stop this horrible habit of coming over to my home to 'discuss' work. we have a shared office and phones for a reason, kudo-kun"
shinichi looks at her in disbelief, " what else am i supposed to do? normal friends visit each other on a regular basis. and i'm not allowed to do that. so, i'll come over for work! plus, your apartment is a lot cozier and cleaner than my house."
"we're not normal friends, kudo-kun.", she explains without her eyes moving away from the screen of her computer.
shinichi looks at her in a confused way. he grabs a chair and moves it close to shiho.
"you're right. we're not normal friends. i mean, most friendships don't start between a scientist and detective who got shrunk and were wanted by an underground organization, who they were able to bring down after years of investigating them. not to forget, the several near death experiences we went through! i guess that makes us...best friends! i'd even say fate brought us together." he teases and waits for a reaction from his work partner.
"oh my god. shut the fuck up please.", shiho says as she pushes him away from her to concentrate on her work.
she knows that shinichi was right *to some extent*. they would never actually admit it but they were best friends. from the two of them disliking each other greatly when they first met to capturing a dangerous syndicate and willing to risk their own life for the other one. and even after the downfall of the black organization, shiho and shinichi still cared for each other greatly. she was even there for him when he broke up with his beloved childhood friend.
they just wouldn't admit it. that was part of their friendship, being low maintenance, acting like you don't care about the other person. but when it came down to it, you'd risk your life for them. that's just how they were.
and for the longest time, shiho was confused about it. is this what it feels like to be in love? The only love she ever felt and received back in her days at the organization was the sisterly type of love. Loving your sibling and being willing to sacrifice your life for them. when she felt that way about shinichi in their early conan and ai days, she was confused. at first she thought they were romantic feelings, especially with her jealousy whenever it came to ran. but when she got closer to the detective boys, she realized that she felt the same way about them too. which closed that case for her. she loved them all in a platonic way.
as time went on and they turned back to their adult selves, shiho found herself oddly enough missing shinichi. a lot. now that he's back to his "normal" life, he took his high school finals. obviously passing them with flying colors. he enrolled in a prestigious university (that he only attended half of the time as he was still busy solving cases), going out on dates with his girlfriend and occasionally dropping by at agase's to ask for his and shiho's help for his cases.
of course she missed the detective boys too, but not as much as she missed him. not as much as she missed their banter or them walking around crime scenes together, trying to figure out what happened to the victim. and she felt horrible for feeling this way. she tried convincing herself that the only reason she felt this way about the detective was because he's the one who saved her from the organization after all. she tried convincing herself that she somehow just idolized him and as ridiculous as this sounds, she really hoped she could believe that lie she created. maybe then she'd feel a bit more at ease.
shinichi was in his last year of university. he started later than all of friends and former classmates, but due to his brilliance (despite him not attending his classes) he was actually able to skip a few courses and take replacement exams on them (which he also passed with flying colors) he knew he wanted to be a detective, but he didn't know whether he wanted to work with the police force, secret agencies or be a private investigator. after all, shinichi played a huge part in taking down the organization and had plenty of job offers as soon as he graduated. despite all that, he liked the idea of working on his own. by his own rules. and that's why he decided to open his own detective agency. he worked there all alone, but would call shiho, who was now working full time at a pharmacy, whenever he needed help. she complained about how he was taking advantage of her brilliance and skills. and that's when shinichi got the idea of her working with him. shiho was against it. "never in a million years", she said, crossing her arms. but after months of the dark haired man practically harassing her, she finally gave in and started working with him at their detective agency.
"and...done!", shiho exclaims as she presses the enter key and her printer starts printing the analysis.
"you're seriously such a life saver.", shinichi smiles at her, "i'm sorry about dumping this onto you during your day off."
"there's never any days off when you're working with a corpse magnet, kudo-kun", the scientist states sarcastically.
shinichi rolls his eyes, "wow you're hilarious, aren't you?"
shiho just nods at his statement. she felt this urge to tell him why she doesn't mind working with him on her days off. she liked spending time with him. after all, this is the same man that had saved her life in every possible way. whether it was from the organization or from herself.
"you know, we really make a great pair.", the detective tells her as he grabs the report that had been just printed.
"really?", she asks unfazed, or at least trying to look like she was unfazed by this comment.
"absolutely", shinichi looks at her with his usual grin, "we make a great pair of friends and work partners. It's insane how far our friendship has become. i'd even go as far as to say that you're my best friend"
oh. he was talking about them making a great pair of friends. them being work partners. best friends. she had hoped he meant it in another way. but of course he didn't.
"now that i finished my work, would you please leave my apartment?", shiho sighs, "it's my day off after all."
shinichi thanks her again, obviously not noticing that her attitude changed slightly after his statement. she tells him not to bother her again on the weekend, to which he replies that he can't promise anything. and he leaves her place.
it's fine. she's fine. she'll get over this eventually.
believe it or not this was rushed (note the sarcasm please) i'm very burnt out when it comes to writing and absolutely don't like my writing at all but i enjoyed writing this - at least at the beginning. also!!! i'm so very passionate about ai's character and i think that she's the type of person to love someone so much, but not want / be able to express her feelings to the person. I tried portraying this in a lowkey way but i'm not so sure if it came across that way !!
anyway thank you so much for reading <3
