"Who is it?" I asked. "It's Brendon, can I come in?" Oh. What did he want now? "Why?" "Because I want to show you something!" He seemed legit, so let's see what it is. "I guess, sure." I unlock the door, and let him in.

"What is it?" He looked excited... and he was holding something in his hands. "Look!" He shoved right into my face- "Hey!" I pushed him away, "What was that for!?" I 'asked'. "Just look at what it is!" He told me.

I looked. "Ooo that's pretty," It was a little piece of sapphire. "Wait where did you get this?" He looked even more excited than he was before- "That's the thing! It was just like- laying there, on the ground!" Wait, what?

"How- Actually, it must just be mom's and she dropped it. You should probably give it back to her." That must be it, why else would there be a piece of sapphire just in the backyard- yknow? "Oh, yeah your right- I'm just dumb- anyway you got anything good?"

Brendon was my twin brother, but you might have guessed that already- He goes to the same school, same clubs, and same house. What would I have that he doesn't know already! "Nothing- what would I have?"

"I don't know, thought you would have something I guess- what is that smell?" I didn't smell anything... "What smell?" I asked. Dang my back itches. "It smells like pudding, maybe mom is making some?" He said, a bit quieter. "Uhhh maybe but I don't smell anything- I'll go down to check, I guess."

"Ma? What are you making?" Mom looked over the island and smiled. "Pudding! I hope you like it, I made it the way my mom used to make it!" Guess Bren was right. Oh dang I remember Grandma... She was always looking after the forest, just like me and Brendon. Except...

It was always like Grandma had a special connection to the animals... now that I think about it, g-ma loved birds like me. Heh, it was like she could TALK to them! Imagine that! I will always wonder where she went during the night, though... never in her bed...

But I shouldn't dawn on that! Its too late to figure out and it's pudding time! "Brendon come down for pudding!" Mom 'yells', but it was more of a happy, excited, friendly yell. "Ow-" well that hurt was random- "What's the matter sweetie?" Mom asked.

"Nothing- my back just hurts really badly- it's probably nothing-" I looked up and saw genuine concern on Mom's face. Why was she so... scared for me?
