(Y/N) sits in class. Summer vacation was almost upon them. The teacher drones on about some historic battle long ago. Something about Greek gods and demons. Or maybe he just wasn't paying enough attention. He scribbles down notes for Energer, replaying the battle in his mind. He needed new metal plating. He needed stronger joints. And the coding. Oh, GOD, the coding.
He loved the mechanical aspect, but my god did (Y/N) hate coding. He'll have to spend some more time glaring at his computer, praying he doesn't make a small mistake that results in Energer exploding from a system error.
And, tragically, he'll have to get rid of the current Pilder. He really liked the motorcycle, but he almost died multiple times from being out in the open air. Not to mention being thrown off too many times for it to be comfortable.
(Y/N) grumbles, scratching his scalp. The bell rings, and (Y/N) packs his things. He spies Kirishima and Ashido out of the corner of his eye. He tries his best to ignore them, but it doesn't really work. He still felt bad.
He was right, though. He didn't need them. Friends were a distraction, something to weigh you down. When you're on your own, you can do what you want whenever you want, and there's no one to complain about it. This was fine.
So why was there still a pit growing in his stomach? (Y/N) thinks about this for a moment as he walks to his next class.
Ashido wanted to be friends since he entered the first grade. He was already irritated by her, and they had only just met. He saw her as a hall monitor or the fun police constantly nagging him for getting into fights. She was even the class rep for a few years. (Y/N) never understood why she acted that way with him. Ashido never yelled at anyone but him she never dug her heels in like that with anyone but him. They argued all the time before Kirishima turned up.
(Y/N) has a habit of only remembering the negative when he gets in a mood. He thinks it helps him improve, and for engineering, that makes sense, but socially, it makes him an asshole. He and Ashido had plenty of positive interactions in the past. She always tried to help him deal with Boss, who always had a soft spot for her or maybe just women in general.
She came to visit when he was sick, and she helped him with his projects from time to time, but somehow, he kept acting like she was a drag on his life. He would hide things from her for no real reason. He refuses to trust her or Kirishima, who has the patience of a saint whenever (Y/N) gets in a bad state.
(Y/N) remains oblivious to all this, leading to Ashido's anger increasing over lunch. Kirishima felt a little nervous sitting so close to her as if she were a bomb that could go off at any second angrily, devouring her Nattō and rice.
"Are you alright?"
"I'm fine!" She said through gritted teeth. Kirishima frowns. These two were far too stubborn for their own good, and (Y/N) hasn't apologized for his frankly awful behavior before, so why would he start now? Kirishima couldn't help but feel bad for the guy. A lot of people ignored or made fun of him, and some days, Kirishima could see why. He was sticking with Ashido with this one. If (Y/N) doesn't apologize, then he'd be content never talking with him again.
In (Y/N)'s workshop, he glares at a modified terminal screen. His eyes have almost turned completely red. He touches his cheek again. He thinks back to what Kirishima said. "If you pull off a divine miracle and admit you were wrong." (Y/N) slams his head on the keyboard, over and over again.
He rubs his eyes and takes a break from the terminal, immediately sitting down at his other desk where his designs and blueprints are. "I need a machine, Energer is pretty much out of commission. Its arms are destroyed. I'll need to redesign the return mechanism. And the Pilder...."
