As I was walking through town, I heard a commotion in the town square and gathered with everypony else. Twilight and Spike arrived soon after, standing next to me. A cyan unicorn with a light blue mane and tail and a purple cape and hat decorated with stars heads out on stage. She looks a lot like my childhood ex-friend Trixie in my world.
We became friends because we shared a love of magic tricks and figuring them out, but we stopped being friends when she became so arrogant that she pretty much forgot about me by the time we got middle school, and then she moved to Canterlot. I moved there a few years later after my mom passed, and she didn't even remember my name or that we were ever friends to begin with.
She announces with a dramatic flair, "Come one, come all! Come and witness the amazing magic of the Great and Powerful Trixie!" The audience oohs, and Trixie continues, "Watch in awe as the Great and Powerful Trixie performs the most spectacular feats of magic ever witnessed by pony eyes!"
Fireworks explode in the background, and a fanfare plays.
I mutter, "Must be this world's equivalent to a magic show."
Rarity exclaims, "My, my, my! What boasting!"
Spike says, "Come on, nopong's as magical as Twi- Twi- Twi- Oh!" He clears his throat, nervously saying, "Hey Rarity, I, uh... Mustache!"
Someone's definitely got a crush.
Twilight asks, "There's nothing wrong with being talented, is there?"
I say, "Not if you don't brag about it or drop friends because of it."
Applejack adds, "Nothin' at all, 'cept when someone goes around showin' it off like a school fully with fancy new ribbons."
Rarity agrees, "Just because one has the ability to perform lots of magic does not make one better than the rest of us."
Rainbow boasts, "Especially when ya got me around being better than the rest of us. Heh... Uh, I mean.. Yeah, uh, magic schmagic. Boo!"
Trixie arrogantly says, "Well, well, well. It seems we have some neighsayers in the audience. Who is so ignorant as to challenge the magical ability of the Great and Powerful Trixie? Do they not know that they're in the presence of the most magical unicorn in all of Equestria?"
I scoff, "Who does she think she is?"
Spike says, "Yeah! Since we all know that Twilight here is -"
Twilight interrupts him, saying, "Spike! Shhh!"
Spike asks, "What? What's wrong?"
Twilight whispers something to Spike, and more fanfare plays before Rainbow asks, "So, 'Great and Powerful Trixie', what makes you think you're so awesome, anyway?"
Trixie scoffs, "Heh, why, only the Great and Powerful Trixie has magic strong enough to vanquish the dreaded Ursa Major!"
More fanfare plays and fireworks go off, and the audience awes at Trixie's claim.
I ask Twilight, "She fought a constellation?"
Twilight confusedly responds, "No, the Ursa Major is a giant bear monster. Why would you think it's a constellation?"
I roll my eyes, saying, "Because, like I've said many times, my world has no magic. Ursa Major is just the name of a constellation in my world."
Trixie continues, "When all hope was lost, the ponies of Hoofington had no one to turn to, but the Great and Powerful Trixie stepped in and, with her awesome magic, vanquished the Ursa Major and sent it back to its cave deep within the Evergreen Forest!"
